Did you check the the end of the starter that goes into the engine for cracks ?the casting is kind of thin there, also the bushing that is in the end gets worn out, let's the armature flop around, and under load the starter had to struggle to turn over.I had to buy a used starter that didn't...

Tranny parts,I was told by "Red",the guy who rebuilt Hydramatics for Memphis Equipment before he retired, that the fiber and steel clutch discs in the tranny would be the hardest parts to find and to save everyone that I could.Healso told me that 90% of tranny problems were worn out discs,didn't...
Many of SS members don't like E Bay with good reasons .But for anyone wanting the parts "bible" on the GMC trucks there is one on E bay right now.Hardcover and 1/2 the price of a repro.I already have one. Just passing this on.Good luck on all your projects.
Hendersond did it same way I did.just make sure the ends of the steel lines are supported really well so they don't vibrate the rubber spliced places .my repair like this was still working untill water pump failure.the brass fitting in the water pump is a specialty item,I killed it by over...
Way to go. You have proven the 5 "P" saying .Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance .Amazing what servicing your vehicle by the book will do for it.Congratulations on a safe and fun trip.
There is a brass fitting that goes from the fuel tank to the vent line system that has a spring loaded ball in it that acts like a pressure release valve to keep excessive pressure from building up in the fuel tank,if your fuel tank goes "whoosh" when you crack the filler cap ,you have to much...

I would ask if they manafluxed the head for cracks,it is a process that uses a dye under ultraviolet light that will show minute cracks in an object.google manafluxed, educate yourself on this before you confront them, are you sure the head was not cracked before you tookit off?if they didn't...
Sitting here on a rainy day watching "Raid on Rommel".Something about a convoy consisting of 2 US halftracks,a M35 gasser ,and 2,yes 2 M135's painted desert tan with white Africa Korps tactical markings. As many times as I have watched this movie ,I never noticed the M 135's before. Hey it is a...

Water pump replacement
When I replaced my last pump on my M211,I bought a brand new manufactured one from O'reilly autoparts store, took some time to convince female parts person to look in book, was a special order item, had to pay in advance but was brand new manufacture and perfect...
Per TM9-1819AA,July 1952, TM9-8025-1,May 1958.Both of these are GMC 302 motor manuals, neither one says anything about sealant on head bolt threads, using anti seize is a good idea.Bolt heads with 3 lines on the head of the bolt are torqued to 70-80 ft/lbs ,while bolt heads with 6 lines on them...
I have been following this thread, doing an excellent job for those who dont have winches on their trucks. Its fellow SS members like you that make this site a really nice place for the transfer of knowledge, parts, and just plain good fun in the pursuit of the restoration of our beloved GMCs.Thanks...
OOPS what a dummy I am ,post isnt really clear, should be that the Holley carbs were used in other vehicles, with different motors ,not a GMC 302 motor.Just got back from Germany ,still suffering from jet lag
You are correct about GMC 302 motors used in the M59 APCs, and were also used in the M50 ONTOS 6 barreled 106mm recoiles rifle tracked carriers, and some of the early gas motored M35/44 and a few others. The TM for the carbs on a GMC says the acc.pump lever should be in the center hole of the pump...
