The paint that I used was a semi gloss as I find it easier to wash off as I drive them lots and find that with the flat paint the dirt gets right into it.
They are a great little MV that is fun to drive. They even have a lever operated rear differential locker. Here are a couple of pictures of one that I restored and also traded for the restored M135 that I got about 4 weeks ago.
These are Bombardier iltis. When Canada was looking to replace there old fleet of M38a1s and M151a2s the German iltis was there choice but had to have that Canadian content thing which cost the tax payers almost double of what we could have bought them for direct from Germany. Canada got the...
I guess it is like anything I caught the olive drab bug. I picked up around 40 of the iltis for salvage and will be able to make about 10 runners out of the bunch. As for the dodge truck deck, it is set up with a hydraulic winch in the back with 1200 feet of rope as we used it for erecting...
Actually it does have a few scratches on it as the pictures that I had when I posted them was closely after it was restored. Here is a picture that I just took on the weekend. It has just turned over 4000 miles on it since restoration. I think I put on more miles on it in the last 4 weeks than it...
I thought I would post a few pictures of my iltis. These were just surplus in the last year marking the end of the soft top small jeep like vehicle in Canadian military service.
As I am new to the GMC M135 series of trucks and I am starting to locate parts for spares. I do not know where the surplus parts ended up for these trucks and how much there was left over as they did use these trucks right up until 1986. There might not be too much left around as the Canadian...
The main reason I asked about them is that I would like to sell them ( as I do not own a 5 ton or know too much about them ) and I do not know what kind of price I should be asking for them. So if any one could tell me what they normally sell for it would be appreciated.
Dave
I have acquired some torque rods to fit the 5 ton 800 series truck ( # 8728126 ) and wondered if they need replacing very often and are they readily available? what is the usual cost for one? I don't know too much about them and don't own a 5 ton, and thought I would ask here.
I guess I should have made it a little more clear as well. I put it in F1 high range and let the trans shift 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 and then shift it in to F2 to hold it into 3rd gear until I reach the 30-35 MPH mark then shifting it back into F1. Thanks for the info on backing up in F2 low range as I...
I will have to get a manual for it. I have been down shifting it into the f2 position until it reaches about 30-35 MPH then shifting it back into the F1 position and works fine. I just was not sure if the 22 MPH 3-4 shift was normal for these trucks as most other vehicles would have higher shift...
The transmission shifts into 4th gear at 22 MPH in f1 with a top speed of 55 MPH. The main question I am asking, is this normal shifting pattern? as I think it should shift into 4th gear around 30 MPH because at the 22 MPH range it really lugs along until 30-35 MPH. Has some one down loaded the...
I was able to take the 135 out for a drive this weekend as the weather was nice. Since this truck and its workings are still new to me it seams that the shift into 4th gear comes in way too soon ( 22 MPH ) and wanted to know if this is what it is suppose to be? It shifts into 4th gear at 22 MPH...
