    MEP-002a help

It would help to know just exactly how you are taking these voltage measurements. When you take a voltage reading across the terminals of a switch or a breaker, you'll show voltage across the connections when the switch or breaker is "open" and 0 volts once the contacts close. John

    <5KW MEPs - which ones?

Understand that the EF2400 only has a continuous rated output of 2 kW on page 32 of the manual you linked. Operation up to 2.4 kW is doable and I'm surprised they don't really warn people about peak current operation. In addition, I draw your attention to the "note" on page 14 regarding...

    <5KW MEPs - which ones?

Amolaver, the modern inverter type generators are very good provided you understand their limitations. We had some Honda inverter generators in my department. In exchange for the lower noise, you get a generator that cannot be run for more than three hours when operated at or above 50 percent...

Generator Conductor to House Panel Question

You better double-check the code book. I believe that any NM-B with a 90 C rating can only use that for de-rating purposes. John

    Calling all Generator Owners

This. I have a CEP distribution box connected to the generator and run a bunch of 1500 watt fan heaters off the distribution box for loads. Do not run off the convenience outlet. John

    MEP 003 replacement panels

One option may be to keep your eyes open for a complete control box (or whatever the proper terminology is). I was fortunate in January to pick up a NIB complete control box with all gauges, switches, wiring, boards, etc for just over $200. The tag on the side said that is was made in Fort Drum...

    Newbie

There are a lot of folks here with a lot more experience than I who can provide guidance. I'll give you the benefit of some of my experiences with my MEP-002A. I think any GL purchase will be a dice roll. That's one reason you do not want to get caught up in a bidding war. You need to preserve...

How have you civilized your MEP Generators?

The codes here in Mass are VERY stringent and have the force of law. Any auto start generator here must either be connected to a transfer switch that only enables loads that do not exceed the generator rating or must have some approved method of automatic load management or automatic load...

How have you civilized your MEP Generators?

CEP Distribution box Here's a link to the CEP web site and the distro box that I picked up used on ebay some time ago: CEP 8706GU* 50 Amp Single Phase (Spider) Temp Power Box | Temp Power Boxes, Temporary Power Distribution, Portable Lighting, GFCI's, Wiring Devices and Extension Cords...

How have you civilized your MEP Generators?

I installed Speddmon's spin-on oil filter kit. That is my only alteration to the original military layout. I am avoiding auto start/auto switchover because I have a 200 amp house panel that is fed directly via transfer switch, not a smaller transfer switch panel. As such, I would have to...

As for Fort Meade, I suspect genny prices may spike in the next couple of auctions after that recent, long power outage. John

    MEP-017A Diode part number?

Most diodes have a generic number that starts with a 1N or a 2N. For instance, I recently replaced the 1N4722 diode on the flashing circuitry of my 002A because I was getting sporadic lack of flashing and the diode body was cracked. I had no problem finding a replacement based on the numbers on...

    MEP-002A, 003A Fuel Pump Failures

EMI is short for electro-magnetic interference. An EMI filter is purposed to eliminate or suppress the EMI that tends to be generated by electro-mechanical devices that are turned on and off rhythmically and generate electrical impulses that can interfere with other devices. In this case, I...

need help trouble shooting a mep002

I recall there are a number of threads detailing the cleaning and/or repair of the fuel tank. I didn't have problems with my depot rebuilt 002A, including having a spotless fuel tank, but others have detailed their issues and resolutions. Search for some posts from last year by Keith J. Sorry...

    MEP 002A Glow plugs

Thanks to veteran1 for his post. I just ordered four of these for my MEP spare parts bin. In addition to extra filters, I now have a complete, unused 003A control box and these. Thanks, John

need help trouble shooting a mep002

Do yourself a favor by replacing the oil, oil filter and the fuel filters first. Clean the screens on the fuel pumps. Then try to start the generator. Taking short cuts on preliminary maintenance of a newly acquired gen set is asking for trouble. Just ask sewerzuk about that loose nut or bolt...
