Just spotted this in the news this morning. I know the headline refers to guns, but the article actually refers to the entire program being temporarily suspended. I don't know if this means more and better rated equipment being available to us via the auctions or not, at least in the near term...
You certainly do not want multiple grounds, so no ground rod is driven if connected to your house ground. For stand alone generator operation though, or no connection to the house grounding system, a ground rod should be used.

You probably have a nice generator. The Columbus, Ohio facility is a national storage facility. I think it is unlikely that they would be holding junk. On the contrary, they would tend to store equipment that is available quickly for units in the field. The tag info is not complete because that...
Nice generator. Another solution to getting power receptacles at the generator is to use a distribution box, sometimes referred to as a "spider box". I use the large CEP box by connecting a 50 amp shore power cable between my 002 and the box. The box has pass throughs for 50 amp 120/240 and for...
I agree with ETN550. There was distinct softening of generator prices at SELECT bases. I hope the trend continues over the next few months, as prices have been insane.

I use Hubbell 50 amp 120/240 volt 4-wire waterproof cables. As far as noise, the sound is controlled reasonably well on the trailer with the tarps down except for an opening for the exhaust.

I had heard many horror stories about the EUC process. In my case, I went through the process a couple of months ago and feared the worst. Fortunately, my EUC on some bayonets cleared within days. I don't know if it is because they are doing a better job at processing the paperwork and doing the...
I certainly hope the thread doesn't go off track. There are reasons to logically discuss this topic that go beyond the bizarre, namely the solar cycle and its potential interactions with the power grid and electronics.

Not necessarily. Much depends on the nature of the EMP event. Think of EMP's as a pulsed radio wave. Damage to electronics will be determined by a combination of factors that include frequency of the pulse, amplitude of the pulse, anything that causes amplification/resonance within the...
Not necessarily. The diesel motor and gen head are generally safe. The electronics would be the major concern, more specifically the transistors. However, the metal control box should tend to act like a farraday cage. This provides quite a bit of protection. Grounding can supply even more...
You mean like this one??
I picked that up for $260, plus the $26 GL fee, plus $40 for my son to ship it from Oklahoma for me. Spare parts for my MEP-002A (or an 003A if I get one sometime soon). It appears that the one part I cannot use on the 002A from the control box is the current...
Sorry. All I could find is the length, width and height as listed in the -12. I'll try to get a measurement tomorrow, unless someone beats me to it.

It looked to me as if the trailer mounted generators at Meade with 2 hours or so on the meters were all refurbished at Letterkenny Army Depot in 2007. Some of them had the Tier 2 reset tag on the generator, but many did not. However, the trailer tags had serial numbers with a LEAD assigned...
