Last week, there was a large amount of M101A2's and A3's that auctioned out of Hooks, TX for short money in condition code A4. A lot depends on the number of trailers being auctioned and the location.

I've never liked 2-stroke engines to begin with, so have little time actually playing with them. On the other hand, I have a lot of time with diesel engines over the years. My 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 with Cummins turbo diesel is now over 240,000 miles with the vast majority on 15W-40 full synthetic...
I went back and forth as to whether I wanted to use the Rotella T6 in the 5W-40 range or the Wolf's Head full synthetic diesel oil in 15W-40. Since it is already cooling off as we progress through fall and winter is just around the corner, I figured this might actually be better for a generator...
I have everything ready except for the filters which will arrive tomorrow. I have opted to run Rotella T6 full synthetic oil. I have weighed all the points here and I envision getting more benefits than problems going this route, given that this generator is designed to always run at speed.
On...
This is a very interesting post. I've been sold on the lubricity of synthetic oil in my 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 for years now. It actually lowered the operating temperature a few degrees in my turbo diesel when I made the switch. I would have thought that old and new engines alike would benefit, but...
I am not performing any mods to this gen at the moment. The oil filter and fuel filters will be here later in the week, so I should be able to fire up this weekend for a test. Any mods that I may consider will be after it runs and I know there are no problems.

Based on some of the posts I found on this site, I opted to order the Fram CH6PL oil filter and some of the Fram C1125PL fuel filters. I misspoke when I said that all three fuel canisters were empty. The first one with the strainer had that in place. I simply need to install the two fuel filter...
Update:
I opened all three fuel filter canisters and they are all empty. Apparently, the ASLAC refurbished MEP's are drained of fuel/oil and those filters are left out. I'm not sure why they installed a new air filter at the time, but I won't complain. I went to my local Auto Zone today armed...
Count your blessings. I'm still going round and round with the Mass RMV over trailer plates for an M101A2 trailer. The hang up, at the moment, is the VIN number on the trailer tag. The Mass RMV Taunton office doesn't like the 16 digit VIN that the US Army assigned and stamped on it. I have to...
OK. Appreciate all the info. I'm going to consider my options with regard to the oil filter. I plan on checking out the fuel filtering over the next couple of days. If all goes well, I may try to fire this beast up this Sunday.

If you are the guy with the Youtube video, then you are the guy I need to speak to. I've read about some of the issues that can happen with the military oil filter. I'm most concerned with potential leaks and easy accessibility to oil filters. I assume the thrust of your conversion is primarily...
I'll have to look around for that cap. I presume that the military would issue that cap along with the length of hose they coil up and supply with the generator. This gen appears to be complete except for the need to add an oil filter, oil and fuel. I presume that's how they are configured when...
Thanks for the heads-up on the fuel filters. I'll take them apart and check them out this week sometime. Meanwhile, I need to get new batteries and an oil filter. I've found references here and on youtube to converting to a wix spin-on oil filter. I'll have to give that some thought as well. I...
I appreciate the information given in this thread, plus the wealth of info in other threads that I have gone through. I intend to go slowly so I do not screw something up.
I took some time this morning to go through the various filters and to take more detailed photos to share with you folks...
I suspect that you will have an easier time with the RMV because you obviously need the SF97 for titling purposes and they apparently do not have problems with those. I wish you good luck with your insurance, as I've heard that is more difficult to deal with concerning these trucks, at least...
I did not actually work on the gen set today, but did go over it carefully. This gen set has plainly not been used since refurbishment at ASLAC in Charleston, SC in 2009. The various coverings are aluminum wrap with cable ties or sometimes simply tape. As I stated, the fuel tank is empty and...
If only the Mass RMV operated this way. Home built trailers require a certification of parts origin, or so they informed me. Unfortunately, Mass is in that same category as some of the other notoriously bad states. I believe it may be simpler to just apply for the SF97 and be done with it.

Things like this build character. And just think, you haven't even dealt with the RMV yet!! I had my first round dose with those clowns yesterday over an M101A2 trailer that I just acquired out of Fort Meade. The weight of my trailer is such that no title is required by Mass law, but they are...
