Does the red wire have 24V?
The purple wire should only have 24V when the ignition switch is in the start position (assuming the relay is functioning).
I learned that from reading the posts of the long time members around here. Just repeating what they have said.
It is a shame we cannot find isolated ground alternators for the same price as the off-the-shelf case grounded alternators.
Look at the MEP generators. Start'em up and bring them right up to speed. The best way to warm up any engine is to put it under a load. Give it a minute to build oil pressure then lightly load it until it comes up to full operating temperature before fully loading it.
Running an...
Yes an arc that big could have damage other parts inside Alt #2.
Take it to a shop to have it tested or if you believe your original isolated ground internals (the one that had the broken case) are good then swap them into your good (newly modified) case with that second rebuild kit parts (not...
On a stock military CUCV both alternators are isolated ground units.
It is true that you can put a non-isolated ground on the drivers side but the original military units were all isolated ground.
Mine came from the national guard with a shiny chrome handle. Then it broke and I replaced it with another shiny chrome handle (to maintain the stock appearance :) )
I guess you could buy a 12V relay (coil voltage) to control the 24V relay (coil voltage) to control the compressor (24V).
You are better off getting a relay with a 12V coil that has the power contacts rated for the load (voltage and amperage) of the compressor.
Whatever you do be sure to...
This 2003 GM duramax diesel supplement manual says:
http://www.gmtruckhq.com/Manuals/2003DuramaxDieselSupplement.pdf
When your engine is cold, let it run for a few minutes before you move your vehicle. This lets oil pressure build up. Your engine will sound louder when it’s cold.
Notice: If...
My bet is power for the missing radio and the green light is the pilot light to remind the previous owners to turn the power off to the radio to keep from damaging the radio when starting and/or to keep the battery from being discharged by the radio.
The resistor will show 24v until you put a load on it before it drops the voltage. The current flow determines the voltage drop. The total resistance of the circuit determines the current flow (along with the voltage). The resistor and working glow plugs together make up a series/parallel...
Lamps are not fuses. They are not designed to open at a specified current value with a specified current interrupting rating.
These Alt 1 and Alt 2 lamps are used to indicate proper functioning (within reason) of the alternators. The lamps come on when the key is in the run position...
