@Lundy Could you separate this into two things? A water generator, and a general purpose generator? i.e. perhaps could a water tank be added so the main pump can run once a day on a timer, enabling the 10kW generator to come up to speed, warm up, and then have the start load dumped on it? Then...
I got some hard copper wire (18ga +/-) and bent up a replacement. It is probably easiest to do by making a bending template on a block of wood with a few small nails and cutting the tops off.
The funny thing was that after running the generator for a few hours the missing one vibrated loose...
Congratulations on getting it running and purring like a kitten. I think that De-Ox-It is your very good friend for old and oxidized contacts.

FWIW: Many of these engines were designed for higher lubricity fuel that ULSD doesn't provide, so adding something similar to Optilube (pick a flavor) to the fuel will help the engine long term.
For short term use, B20 has great lubricity properties, and I think that SeaFoam is great at...
If a machine has not been used in a long (long) time, it is possible to have water in the oil that starts to steam off when the engine first warms up. Is it possible the "blow by" that you are seeing is just that the oil is baking off some water?
If you haven't run it at temperature under full...
This is, I think a common issue with the Yanmar single cylinder engines. I have seen solutions that have 6" or so of corrugated stainless flex pipe, but trying to do a 90 degree bend in a flex pipe in that space is not going to work. I have seen some implementations of that engine that have an...
There is lots of great advice on Mike Holt's forum. In many parts of my life, I have found that when an issue has lots of conflicting solutions, either there are gross misunderstandings, or incomplete, or inadequate solutions, or a poor understanding of the different use cases. I would nominate...
I think finding OEM Yanmar filters can be a challenge. It has been my experience that if you don't by the filter from a Yanmar dealer, the knockoffs are quite variable in quality and fit. YMMV... I don't have a great 3rd party source. Some of the knockoffs that I have seen had paper so porous...
Since you just worked the engine over, that does sound a bit odd, but I don't know exactly what the cause could be. That sounds like some amount of stiction (friction) on a cold injector rack. Sometimes when I get an engine that seems to be "sticky", I will put some Tuff-oil in. Yes, I know...
I don't know how much lye is in Purple Power, but it sure gets items clean. Wear skin and eye protection! I use it mainly as a pre-painting degreasing step.

First, take the gauge readings with a big pinch of salt. The value is in the right range.
Temperature increases do lower the viscosity of the oil slightly, (but the effect is small, 1-2% range) and it also changes the size of small gaps in bearings. I suspect that the larger effect is that...
I agree with @Ray70. You seem to be doing the right things. Have you tried any PBblaster or candle wax or other penetrating oil?
FWIW: I try to add the heat to the outer component when trying to pull a gear or fan off of a shaft. I don't know that it makes a big difference, it just seems to me...
I know nothing about this generator in particular, but from experience with other diesels, that looks like the governor is not fully functional either due to a broken spring on the control or stuck internally due gunk.
That control arm vibrates a lot; the centrifugal force from the governor...
That is a great stick welding machine for structural or pipeline work. They rarely turn up at anything other than high prices, for good reason. They are rock solid, and 500A lets you move right along. That is a 5/16ths or 3/8" rod.
To @98G's point above, if you are going to use it as a...
Are you sure about those being SAE threads? The thread sizes are close. I ask only because Champion lists that part with metric threads;

Regardless, $18 on E-Bay...

I wouldn't say that for me it correlates with age... and it has been a long time since I could look down and figure out anything much.
I only have a few hours into these generators, so I'm certain I haven't retained 90% of what are in the TMs, and 99.9% of what is useful.
I'm curious. What is...
