I didn't realize Lodi was so far north in California! I'll admit I am not that familiar with California geography.
The only cost effective way for me to get my truck out there is by train. I'll look into that. But, as I am probably the closest, I will try. Just don't be surprised if...
I am located in South East Texas. With luck, I might have my gun truck built by then. Many air defense crewmembers live out on the West Coast. I'd love to be able to take the truck out to them.
I can't promise you that I will make it, but I'll try.
One question: what are the laws in...
Thanks to everybody for the info. I never considered the 915/A1 series of trucks. Actually, I didn't even know about them. I plan on lchecking them out to see if that will work for me. Sounds like it will. Especially if I don't have to convert military to civilian/commercial.[thumbzup]
Is the M915/M915A1 the freightliner tractor? Basically, a 6x4? I have seen them on the GL site, but don't know much about them.
I went to J A Tonka's website, and downloaded the operator manuals for each. I'll look through them when I get a chance.
Thanks!
What does my join date have to do with my question?
I came out of jeeps, and just recently acquired a deuce. Just tryint to learn without screwing something up.
And, if I don't have a plate to reference, it makes it rather difficult to reference.
Perhaps I could ask you about the inner...
Like I said earlier, must have missed the page.
I don't drive for a living, and merely wanted some clarification. Turbo-diesels are a new thing for me. I have read lots of manuals, and found out that some fo the stuff is correct, and some isn't. I wanted to find out iform the folks who...
I would read the data plate, except that the info is not there. Makes it kind of difficult.
As for the manual, perhaps that page is missing, or I didn't see it.
Being rather new to the deuce world, I have a question I hope that the more informed can help me with.
After driving a deuce for a long enough period to get the temperature up, when I stop for the evening, do I need to idle the truck to drop the temp, or can I shut down without having to do so?
I am contemplating buying a 5-Ton Tractor, but am not sure which series to get - 809 or 939.
Also, I need the capability to haul a commercial lowboy trailer with my other vehciles lashed down to it. Any recommendations on how to do this?
I looked at the M-series lowboy, but I can't fit a...
Looking good, Rory. You planning on being at the Temple Air SHow, or is that still too clase a date? Maybe, 4th of July? Of next year?
Just kidding. Keep it up.[thumbzup]
With any luck, I should have The Widow Maker completed by then. She's not a Transport Group truck. Instead, she's a replica of an Air Defense truck, and mounts a quad .50 on the back.
I hope to have photos of the truck posted soon. I am currently working on getting the quad mount (hardest...
Just an update for everybody. I should have the truck sanded down in the next week or so.
I was able to get the correct mirrors and brackets. Thanks to Saturn Surplus for the mirror Heads and Midwest Military for the arms and brackets.
Also, thanks to Erik's Military Surplus for the...
I just wanted to add that the truck is a replica of The Widow Maker, and not a tribute truck.
The Widow Maker (real) was based on an M35A1. She went through at least 3 rebuilds that I can find. In her final configuration in 1972, she was on a 5-ton. I'm not sure when that was done, as all...
I am currently working on q Quad .50 Gun Truck as a tribute to the Air Defense Artillery units in Viet Nam. The name of my truck is The Widow Maker, and is a replica of the actual truck. Several of her original crewmembers are my advisors on this project.
Matthew,
PM me. I have some photos that show exactly what you need. Or, you can visit my website at www.HistoryFanatics.net and see the photos plus others.
The mirrors you are looking for a small, either 4"x6" or 6"x9" (I don't remember). The West Coast mirrors that are on the trucks are not correct for Viet Nam. They didn't come out until the late 70's.
Sorry - I just looked at the post dates, and realized I answered a question from 2 years ago...
Thanks. The sale is ended, but the seller provided enough info for me to contact him.
I found a decent replica M60 for about $1,000. And, I think I found a way to gas it. Now, I just have to put everything together to make it work.:D
I went back and went through IrAC's site again. I don't know how I missed it the first 15 or so times. Perhaps I was drooling too much on the .50's.
Anyways, yes, they do offer a replica M60E3. As nice as this is, though, it is NOT a sim-fire, which is what we need.
And, before anybody...
Well, in the past when I HAVE contacted them, I was told that they did not offer one.
I'm not asking others to do my work. Just asking if others can point me in the right direction.
As for why it must be an M60, it's because that's what was on the truck. The M60 covered the loaders on the...
