Thanks BROKE DOWN. That was roughly what I was thinking the measurements would work out to be.
I am not so concerned about height. The engine bay is pretty deep from hood to frame rails.
Being a inline 12v 5.9 cummins is shouldn't have to many width issues either, I hope.
Just depends on all of...
I have no winch to worry about, yet! Might just go with an electric one at any rate if I do. Save the hassle of trying to make a pto drive off the 5.9 and such.
BROKE DOWN if you could shoot off some quick measurements that would be great! I seem to be getting different numbers every time I...
Its is the standard five speed tranny that is attached to the 5.9 cummins.
The guy is willing to give me an automatic allison tranny with the other motor and tranny set up.
I will have to find an adapter plate if I decide to got the auto route.
Still waiting to hear from him on whether or not he...
Don't know if my progress pics are gonna work but here it goes for what it's worth!
Wheels before and after being stripped and then repainted.
Sorry not much else. Bumper is currently receiving same treatment.
Talked to the guy with the engine again.
Another bonus!! He will throw in an allison auto tranny he has sitting around with the 5.9 and 5 speed. He is gonna take the motor and tranny out of the truck since he is 5 and a half hours drive and a ferry ride away.
Gonna meet half way and swap.
Says...
Crap!! Talked to the fella with the 5.9 cummins.
Found out that it is a 4x4 dodge he has sitting at his shop.
He thinks that the transfer case is mated to the tranny. Ugh!!
I don't know if you can remove the transfer case on those or not.
The up side is he will give me the whole truck for my...
I am really considering the 5.9 cummins.
My biggest issue is the length.
My measurements may be way off but from what I measure I will have to make quite the deep doghouse in the cab to make it fit.
I see that GUNFREAK has a M211 with a 6.2 in his, but I wonder if the engine bay on the M135 and...
Ok! Here is a little up date.
I haven't had much time to do anything with my rig. Didn't think you all would want to see pics of just repainted stock rims. Though it does drastically make the ol' M135 look a **** sight better than it was.
Temps have been pretty cold here at -25 to -30 Celsius...
Totally awesome truck!!
I am planning the same kind of extended cab and bob for my 1955 M135!
Just going with a service type box on the rear instead of a standard box.
A true inspiration for me and makes me want to get mine done even more!
I had an 2001 ford f350 with a 7.3 in it and found it to be a decent motor till I rolled the truck!
Not sure it would fit to well in the engine bay of the old GM. I don't want to have to cut up the fire wall to squeeze an engine in if I don't have to.
I have an 89 gmc 1ton dually sitting here...
I would love to be able to find an older school bus out this way to use as a donor for motor, tranny, and possibly hydro boost for the brakes.
Unfortunately in my neck of the woods they aren't that easy to come across.
I have been on the look out for anything that may be a decent swap.
Till...
Unfortunately as you say, decisions decisions.
As it stands right now I will have to put the bed to rest. I am trying to not get to ahead of myself with this rebuild/build.
My wife keeps telling me I am going in circles with all the things I plan to do and to just stick with stripping and...
That box looks awesome M1010plowboy! That is pretty close to what I am thinking of doing. I would have to do some serious shortening on it to make it fit my frame after I bob the truck.
Weight might be another issue. Looks pretty beefy! Was looking at some storage boxes from a local manufacture...
I plan on extending the cab just far enough to put a bench seat in behind the front seats for the troops, kids. Got two boys a girl and working on another. I would prefer not to have to extend the cab but it was the one stipulation the wife gave me in order to get the truck, has to be family...
Here is a sketch I threw together of what I am thinking to with my rig once I bob it.
Keep in mind I will be moving the front rear axle back to the mid point of the old tandem set up.
Unless I come across some major design problems!!!
As of present, again, my top speed is 0mph! Due to my engine...
Razzle frazzen zarg barg a ding dong!!!
Thanks NDT! That bit of info helps since my computer won't let me download the TM's for the truck!
I freaking hate computers! Gonna have to find someone with a computer that works proper and get them to download the TM's onto a memory stick then go to...
The drum spins freely by hand with the axle jacked off the ground so I figured the pads must be backed off enough. Could give it another look tomorrow. Are the studs part of the drum? Or is the studs a part of the axle and the drum is drilled to allow the wheel studs to pass through?
I doused...
Ok! Here it is!
I am either really stupid or the brake drums are freaking welded on the axle!
I have my driver side front tire off my rig for a paint stripping and re finish.
So I figured I would check my brakes while I had the tire off. Well be ****ed if I can't get the drum off the axle!!
I...
I have thought about going with a hydro boost from a large heavy truck like a F700 or similar.
I am not to keen on the idea for using a donor trucks axles and the likes. I am only looking for the engine and tranny for the power plant since the 302 is locked up.
I would think that the axles from...
