The Gabriel shock is available now on eBay. Equipment Parts Sales has half a dozen. I got two for $20 each last month.
It has the part number and made in Canada on the side. They are not painted.
I put some green paint on and they are good to go.:-D
If you want a preview of what your coolant has in it, take a five gallon pail and drain the coolant into it. Let is sit for an hour or so. Pour it back in. Look at the bottom of the pail I will normally look like beach sand. There is a lot more in there.
For exactly the reason Dan Martin says. A bypass filter cannot clog and stop the coolant circulation. Just a little insurance for the times you forget to change the filter.
After all, the object is to prolong the life of the motor not cause a maintenance mess.
Even though I do not drive my...
I found the kit to be not specifically for the multi-fuel engine in that it did not have the proper fittings for the engine block. This was easily overcome at the hardware store, of course, but it was still not specific for the multi.
Buying it from NAPA on a generic number for resale explains...
I really think that we need to be more careful about maintaining these engines. Longevity is not just a matter of luck. Both of mine have had some PM, not recently, but some. But, with the coolant filter, better fuel filters without rust, better oil filters and such it is possible to overcome...
Here is the odiron kit: http://www.odiron.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=8_18&products_id=499
Brass fittings can be had at NAPA or your local hardware store.
I use a 24071 filter with the SCA on mine.
If I have to come to NY to get those filters, you are going to be one sorry dude! If I have to change those stock filter cans with all that rust one more time, I am going Postal.
Kind of figure that it looks like this: ]
The gasket fits inside the lip. Once you do it, a gasket will last for several changes.
I still think the better solution is the spin on filters. Just wish they were being made, NOW!
The gaskets fit in a groove on the can holder. I find using a small hook tool to remove them works fast. Putting them back simply means working them about until the fit into the groove. The groove is larger than the can neck.
I still think Northern Tool is our best friend. They have a lot of body work stuff that works great, even for a complete amateur. I moved a lot of metal around this Fall on my second deuce to get the body back in shape.
You might not have as much damage as you think.
cranetruck, Bjorn is absolutely the greatest electrical genius! I had a great 2008, picking up my second deuce in July, I had most of the electrical problems solved in about five week, with his wonderful help.
Nothing serious, just many gremlins. But, did he make it seem simple. He knows his...
WD40 will evaporate causing rust. Never use it for much other than as a temporary penetrating oil.
It also works well to displace moisture.
But, as long term lubricant it is not good.
#116 is the issue. You can order it from Military Vehicles Magazine and have it in a week.
It is very helpful and more detailed than my brief sketch. The only part in the article that I could not duplicate was the final cover bolt. I improvised to move the engine slightly and overcome the...
NickD did an article in Military Vehicles Magazine a year or so ago on rebuilding the steering box on the M35. It is very helpful
Parts are available from Memphis. Putting them in is no big deal.
HOWEVER, getting the box in and out is a major problem.
You need to take the cover off...

Why are there no power saving devices available for the deuce after 30 years of use? That might be a nice way of picking up another ten or twenty horsepower.
