Wheel Bearing Temps High, grease & Preload Q's

Great thread. I would like to add to your list 5) Worn bearing/pitted race I always do a safety check when stopping on long trips. Last summer, 85 deg ambient temps all but one hub was around 100 deg, same temp as tires. Right front was 180. Started stopping frequently to monitor, when it...

50/50 mix of used motor oil & E85 in the Deuce?

If you click on this link it will lead you to the place where there are several days worth of fascinating reading on this very subject. Alternative Fuels.

A Electric Deuce, in a DUMBS (Deep Underground Military Base)?

Yep. Looks like a salt mine photo to me too. Those photos could be of any place. I sincerely hope the govt has lots of underground bunkers. The Denver airport would seem like a crappy place to dig under though. Why build it under such an obvious target? If the govt is building things like...

the deuce shirt design for us deuce loves i need feed back!!!

Here's the easy way. Cafe Press will let you set up your own store or just make your own shirts, hats, coffee cups, whatever. You can just do one tee shirt if you want, and others can purchase it. You could upload a photo or design with some text, get all your friends to order one, donate the...

custom trailer hitch with rotating snatch block for rear winch bumper

Agree that bigger fairleads will save the cable. They are pretty easy to build yourself. All you need is some heavy pipe, get someone to turn down some nylon bushing to go in the ends of the pipe, and some plate to make mounting ears with.

:-D Why didn't I think of that? Great ideas. [thumbzup]

Please put descriptive titles on your threads

When I see a thread titled "need help" or "duce problems" :cookoo: I don't read it. How can we expect someone to take their time and help us if we are not willing to put forth the effort to even give a clue about what we are asking in the thread title? If the answers given were anything like...

    Extra Fuel Tank

Where did you mount the valve? Installation looks great, thanks for the photos.

    Extra Fuel Tank

I looked into that. The problem I found is that the fuel filler cap would be under the bed. Once you raise the sleeve inside the cap, there is no room to get a filler nozzle in there. It could be fueled without the sleeve raised but would cause foaming problems when near full.

Reliability of a deuce vs a 1980's suburban or F350?

I had many of the same questions as you did. I spent about a solid week of reading this site and found the answers to all of your questions and mine as well. The answers have already been written, and the most knowledgeable people are probably tired of repeating themselves. The best tool I have...

    Does anyone double-clutch?

My deuce came from the ORARNG with a bad 4th gear synchro. It won't shift into 4th without bad grinding or a looooooong wait, unless double clutched. I am used to it and generally only double clutch that gear both up and down. It works fine that way.

    Fiberglass Hard Top

Back in the 70s Wittenberg used to sell surplus gassers with their own fiberglass hard top and sell them as water trucks and farm trucks. That might be what it is.

    turn signal woes

I had a similar problem on my right rear turn signal. The wiring was all hashed where various technicians had plugged and unplugged the light trying to fix a bad connection. Turns out that inside the turn signal switch there are separate contacts for each light. The contacts were misaligned and...

    towbar mounts

Hey J-Cats, I saw in another thread on towbar mounting, some time ago that someone had pulled a pin and turned one of the bars around and it folded flat just fine. Looked great without any grinding. Agree with EMR though that some on that one side would be OK. Paint it bright yellow, mount it...

    24v pyro gage

Because in general we are degenerates? There are plenty of guys who are OCD about the smallest details of things. It gives them an outlet for that :)

Making a Deuce a (better) highway vehicle?

Earlier in this thread I posted a link to a nice International for around $10k. They don't articulate but do run nice down the freeway. I can appreciate all of you fine gentlemen who are very content to poke along at 45mph, and would never consider altering such a fine machine, but some of us...

    Multi fuel and the 1008 & 1009

You will find a lot more information on burning alternative fuels in pickup truck engines on the diesel forums like Diesel Place and The Diesel Stop than here. If you have a KTM 950, it will burn WMO too, mine does. About a quart every 3000 miles aua

    Autometer pyro

I like the $2 way. Plenty good to run the lights in that gauge.
