The Rat Shack voltage regulator looks like a good way to go. I did the same thing as you, bought an Isspro 12v pyro. I contacted Isspro and they sold me a zener diode for a couple of bucks to wire in series with the supply. It works fine.
I used a bearing packer at a friends shop that was big enough. It just made a mess and we ended up finishing packing them by hand.
I used to use one of those pointy things that go on the end of a grease gun designed to grease a CV joint for getting grease down in the bearing, then finish by...
I have the LDT 465 with D turbo. Where might I find one of these fine LDS 427 turbos?
The only time I am pushing the EGTs up to the limit is on long hills. If I really pour the fuel to it, max boost I get is about 11.5 and about that time the EGTs tend to hit 1100, I then quit and downshift.
Back to the Chevy - Ford body theme, I am thinking to put my Yukon body on a deuce frame when the motor/transmission gives out.
It would be nice to have a 6x6 couch
Hey TMA, I have seen your comments before about the 27 PSI and I am curious about that.
I turned my pump up one turn and am getting 12 PSI boost max. Is it purely a matter of turning up the pump even more to get more boost and power?
I already drive it by the pyro and don't let it get above...
Well what the OP was looking for was ideas on what kind of new or newer truck he could get that had near the capabilities of the deuce but with modern conveniences like power steering and a cab that doesn't piss all over your lap in a rainstorm.
Great ideas so far. The Internationals, like the...
There are lots of nice used International F1954 6x6 trucks out there reasonable.
There was a sweet one in Texas on last weeks GL auction that went for around $5k. Bout the same price as an M818.
Here are a couple of methods I use that have not been mentioned yet, and include a couple of my favorites since they involve FIRE!
1. Raise the hood and throw a moving blanket over the motor. This will trap all that nice heat your 600watt block heater is making. Close the hood and attach a tag...
Blue dye is used for diesel in government vehicles and is there for the purpose of deterring fuel theft. I don't know if the dye in the premix is the same blue but it could look like it enough to cause a problem.
I did a little digging and found that the dye in ATF is most likely the same as...
I had the opposite happen, when I stopped to fuel, I could hardly get the cap off of the tank, there was such a strong vacuum.
A friend came over and we pulled all the lines loose and blew them out with compressed air one by one. Did NOT blow on the one to the brakes.
They were all clear for...
I use kerosene lanterns and heaters and the red dye really shortens the life of the wicks.
I hate buying the 'pearl' kerosene, so expensive just to burn in a heater.
What kind of setup did you use to filter it?
Bring a cell phone and an American Express card
The mileage figures given above are good, it all depends on how hard you push it. The closer you stay to 2100 -2200 RPM the better fuel economy you will get. Have tires aired up of course. I have never got the 12 MPG that some report, and I...
This is why it is imperative to stick the oil and look at the coolant on EVERY cold start.
Water in the oil or oil in the water is an indication of a blown head gasket, and the truck might have run fine when it was parked and there is no way to know without looking at both.
^^Good Points^^
I have a lot of years of on and off road experience with big trucks. I really like the International F1954 6x6. They already come ready with power steering, great brakes, transmission, powerful motor, and easy to air condition if you like.
If you look around you can find one...
60 MPH is easy with 46" tires and turning up the fuel in the deuce as other have stated. You still have all the other issues that make long trips real tiring; heat, cold, noise, steering, brakes. I just came back from a 4 day trip in Esmerelda and am really beat.
If a person requires all the...
