    Biggest Badest SUV

In a standard SUV the rear passengers enter and exit through the side doors of the vehicle. If you plan on having people enter and exit through the rear then height may be an issue because most people would have to crouch down pretty low to work their way toward the cab end of the bed. That is...

    Biggest Badest SUV

You should consider making the back canopy removable, like the back of a Ford Bronco or International Scout. You could slide the assembly in the slots that hold the troop seats. My concern with the concept in general is that the height in the back may be too limited for practical use but if it...

Compatible transmissions for the M35a3 with the cat 3116

I never claimed that it would be easy. Not sure about the angle limitations. I know what you mean just not sure how much it would limit the off road abilities.

I think you are mistaken. See the link below. http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-59523690850641_2214_25453689

Good point about the loss associated with the second rear axle.

I am going to wait until mine is bobbed before I perform upgrades for top speed improvement. Only having to do two axles means that I am only out $2,400. I will provide my own labor. Not sure about the "get out of it's own way" comment but if you mean that it will have poor acceleration, I...

Good thread. Seems like the opinion is that 4.90s would work in an A3 but that no one has tried it yet. Too bad as the acceleration on other driving characteristics are harder to quantify.

That should translate into a 37% increase in speed. So, 50mph x 1.37 = 68.5mph. Larger tires should then get me another 15%. 68.5mph x 1.15 = 78.8mph. This also means that I would be able to cruise around 65mph with the engine only hitting about 2,200 rpm. I wonder how bad the acceleration...

I eventually plan to bob my truck so that would mean only having to buy two Overson axle gears. $2,400 isn't too bad. I need to determine what the gain in top speed would be. What are the existing axle gear ratios.

I saw one online but it may have been on an A2, now that I think about it. I'll look tonight and see if I can find the picture again.

How much do you figure a gear splitter would be?

    M35 turn signal problem

None of my local auto parts stores, including NAPA, stocked 24 volt bulbs and they are a rare item on amazon.

    M35 turn signal problem

Forgot to mention that I ordered the LED's on Amazon from Osprey-Talon. I would NOT order from them again. Of the 4 bulbs I ordered they sent me two that were the wrong ones and of the two that were correct, one didn't work. I asked them to expedite the right items to me to make up for their...

    M35 turn signal problem

The LED's finally arrived today and seem to work fine. It was $30 for a set of 4 bulbs so hopefully they will continue to work for a long time.

All I am saying is that the jury is still out on this and that we shouldn't draw any cost conclusions yet. Surely there will be additional cost in converting from an automatic to a manual but that isn't necessarily what I plan on doing. There are other options. Hopefully your lockup converter...

Compatible transmissions for the M35a3 with the cat 3116

I don't think it is prudent to say that a transmission upgrade in an A3 will cost as much as the whole truck. To me this thread is full of dead ends and guesses because no one has ever tried to upgrade the transmission before (that or whoever has performed an upgrade has failed to share in this...

I knew it wouldn't take long for a comment about the speed and being a dead man. For the sake of brevity I didn't list out the other mods that would take place before I run 70mph on a regular basis but tires are one of them.

Compatible transmissions for the M35a3 with the cat 3116

I hope to take my A3 from Atlanta to the family farm in south Georgia multiple times a year. The trip is 240 miles which means that I could make the trip in about 1.5 hours less time (each way) if I could travel at 70mph. I would rather take that time and use it around the farm/river/ponds...

Ok, I understand now. I was just confused because post #48 didn't mention a flywheel. If I was to go back to a Spicer I could also install a PTO/Winch. Starting to sound more and more attractive. My next step though is to talk to a local transmission/diff/gear shop to see what ideas they may...
