Only noise I hear is the engine running. Use a mechanic's stethoscope and touch the front and rear of the case where nothing is spinning or can electrocute you. If you hear grinding it is probably bearing related. If the armature were hitting anything inside you would know. ( Badda boom ! )
Looks amazing so far. As long as your welds are solid that thing should be "bulletproof" if not "bombproof". Bravo and Kudos to you Sir. Hoping all the best for your health also. I effing hate Cancer.
Sorry about the T M G initials Jericho. I was at work and very bored ( sleepy ) -- brain on minimum power. Those Military Guys have a lot of nice stuff. The keyed battery switch is top of my heap since my "beast" will have to live outside almost all of the time.
Good point Mr. simp. However, my plans include a four point in-cab, under the soft top, cage tied directly to the frame. I am planning to drive with the top down and the windshield folded front as much as possible. The cross bar behind the seats is where I plan to mount the shoulder belts...
No need to "chrome" aluminum. Polish it out and have it clear anodized (Durabrite like Alcoa wheels). Will outshine and outlast any chrome plating out there because it's the full depth of the material, not just a few millionths of an inch.
Gimpyrobb, thank you for reminding me of my long...
Thank you again Mr. Rustystud. I should have been more specific. On vehicles with air motor driven items ( old American La Frances ) we added an air tool oiler / water separator AFTER the circuits for any brake items. At full air the wipers cycled about twice a second and could be regulated...
Thank you Simp sir. I will add the G R starter to my list. ( Clint, if you see this could you maybe PM me a ballpark price. It will be a while so I won't hold you to anything) Having 2 batts for for each voltage will be even more awesomer. Thanks.
The camera is a great idea, just be careful not to rely solely on it. Check your mirrors as usual and check the camera while scanning to the other side. Once your close then just the camera is great. We have them on our apparatus and I can back to 2-3" from a rear obstruction (watch out for...
Simp, since there aren't already pages of posts I'll take this opportunity to ask a question.
Preamble:
M820, four batteries connected to make 24v. Is there any reason why I could not "split off" one of the batts to have 3 in the 24v circuit with the fourth being exclusively 12v to power...
Not much could be "worse" although both series of engine did yeoman service for MANY years in many vehicles. Only "worse" I can think of was the bastardized 350 c.i.d. diesel. THAT was a true P O S. But at lest GM tried whereas Ford just went "eh ! We get subsidized by the government...
:naner: Yes, but you didn't ask about that. I would go DURAMAX all day every day, and TWICE on Sunday. And ZERO diss of any kind. I too work nights.
In fact, I just recently added the thought of a Duramax and Allison to my short list for drivetrain upgrade in an M800 chassis if I ever...
Ahab, that just might be the answer. [thumbzup] I too am WW 1 vintage (or at least it feels that way), of German heritage, Virgo (so VERY specific), and pretty funky (especially after a fire call but better after a shower). Maybe I will become Moose Fred van Rick tofu.
The Maroon Bar man.
topo, I hear-by present you with the award for today's Best Use of a Defunct Craftsman Wrench (or wrenches). Of course you could have taken them back and gotten new ones to bolt and / or weld in place. Looks awesome. I am planning on a broken Snap-on breaker bar for my transfer case extension.
Nothing . . . Still waiting, patiently, for my M820 to be made ready. In the meantime planning continues. Have a basic floor plan laid out for the box interior. Have the HVAC and plumbing figured out (I think). Still working on electrical plans (sources and voltages).
Can't decide what to do...
Use the manual handle as needed. I am going to be putting an air/water separator / luber on my air system. The oil helps keep all those little motors, gizmos, and thinga-ma-jigs moving freely. The water removal benefits should be obvious. Have done this on every vehicle with an air system I...
