Rosie, I'm one of those whose biggest fear travelling is to break down and be left stranded - that's why I asked this question to start. I would rather take the extra time and take the back roads to be near people and towns than to be stranded on the interstate in the middle of nowhere.
That's what I figured would be the problem if anything - locked up brakes. I know they probably locked the hand brakes when they parked it, and if it sits, it will lock up.
I'm pulling it out of Leesburg, SC. We called it the Wet Site (for obvious reasons) when I was in the Guard. It is a NG training area on the back side of Ft. Jackson, SC. So a 3/8" hitch pin thru the hole shown would be a better idea than a bolt - I might already have one of those. Thanks guys!
Hey Harold - ya'll have a local MVPA over there don't you? Been thinking about joining Spartanburg or Columbia, but my work schedule would keep me from making alot of the Columbia meetings.
Man, getting in depth here. I didn't know about the chains not reaching. I knew my M416 chains wouldn't reach, but figured a bigger trailer would have longer chains for some reason. How do I lock out the surge brake? I imagine some PB Blaster would be in order too - in case something's sticky...
I found a spare vehicle side plug in my parts trailer, so I am going to go ahead and make up a semi permanent 4 wire --> military plug. Thanks for all the info Tim
Thanks Adam! That sounds like a plan. Just so you know, I've still got my military driver's license for everything from M151 - M818 + Bradley, so I'm qualified to drive 'em! Yeah, a SC gathering and trail ride would be great. Surely somebody has some land or knows someone that does for a weekend...
Good stuff guys! I need more on locking out the brake b/c that sounds like what I need to do since it is empty and don't know it's condition. I downloaded a manual and read through alot of it but don't remember seeing that. I'll look again. I've got an air tank, but not a reliable small air...
Alright, I will be going to recover an M101a2 from GL next week. What tools/equipment do I need to take? So far I've got:
Tie wire/zip ties
3/4" lug wrench (is this the right size?)
3/8" socket set
4 wire trailer wiring harness & towing light set (unopened) just in case
tire guage
brake fluid
So what you have there is:
Green wire (right side stop/turn) --> 'J' Service stoplight (RH)
Yellow wire (left side stop/turn) --> 'B' Service stoplight (LH)
White wire (ground) --> 'D' Ground
Brown wire (Tail/marker) --> 'E' Service rear (Taillight)
Simple...
You have to change out the bulbs too, right? Or will the 24v burn on 12v? I went to Northern Tools today and bought a $30 set of towing lights, but hope I don't have to use them and can take them back. I'm hoping that you'll be able to see the tail lights on the Expedition so I won't need...
I'll have to remember that - I think I'll definately come next year, even if I have to take some time off. I can always roll up in the RV for the camping and socializing part if the 'A1 isn't ready. Maybe the wife and I can bum a ride in the back of a duece or something - planning on having the...
After seeing those pics/videos of the GA rally last week, I might end up taking some time off for next year's event myself.
Hey Joe - you're right, I'm right up the Interstate in Richburg! Cool
I did make it to the GAMVPA rally in Kennesaw a few weeks ago though. I picked up a few items and talked to a few fellow HMV owners there. The last time I went to that one was at Helen, GA in 2000.
Thanks DJones
Matt
