    Recovery lessons learned and Not

Glad to hear you made the recovery although sorry to hear of so many problems. God was looking out for me as I bid without preview and arrived at the lot to find a well maintained truck. May your next recovery be less challenging.

Have 2 leaks... coolant and oil

My coolant bottle leaks. It does look like it is coming from the driver's side lower radiator. There is only one bolt holding the coolant bottle in place. Remove the bolt and examine the bottle to see if it is the source of the leak. Does anyone have a civvy part number for the coolant bottle?

Advice Buying 1st m1009 at gl auction

Yes, GL will pass it on to the federal government. Depends on the area. The last batch of M1009s I watched go out in MO, all went for no less than $2500 (or pretty darn close). Depends on the condition and how deep the pockets are of those that want the one you want. The ones I wanted in...

Advice Buying 1st m1009 at gl auction

All bidding is done online. You need a user name and password. Yes you should go and look at the lots prior to bidding. If you win an online auction your CC will be billed immediately. Next you submit an EUC for a government background check and wait for approval. If the government decides...

    GL ads are back

I am glad to see the ads and the financial support they bring but I have one question. Isn't GL running ads on steel soldiers kind of like opening a cash bar at an AA meeting?

Ratings for shackles and pintle hook? how to open the hook? And starter ?s

The key being keep the bystanders back and try to not be in the position the strap/chain will occupy if something breaks. I saw a chain come free and shoot through the back window of the pulling vehicle and leave a welt on the dash. Luckily no one was hurt. Another time I saw a car towing...

Ratings for shackles and pintle hook? how to open the hook? And starter ?s

I understand your point about the built in safety factor in ratings but it seems to me exceeding the working strength on shackles (as well as chains) on a continual basis will eventually lead to catastrophic failure which could be a catastrophe for anyone nearby but a windfall to a personal...

Ratings for shackles and pintle hook? how to open the hook? And starter ?s

According to the manual excerpts I posted the M1008 and M1009 lift and tow hooks are rated at 6500 pounds working capacity. So in the absence of any of any other documented and controlled scientific tests as to the safe working capacity of the lift and tow hooks I will rely on what is in the...
