    Oh man, that's some grteat stuff!!!! I wasn't aware they were so classic even in the 70's.
Wonder how many GI's knew the sayings on the centerfolds by heart? [:)]
I've considered adding a manual shift lever in place of the stock linkage to jam the rod into the case. My sprague locks up in one direction, but not the other, and I want to make sure it stays in for at least one direction [:)]
shoot, even if he could, HE SHOULDN'T!!! selling vehicles on eBay is risky enough, let alone out of the country. There are WAY too many potential scams and if he sends off a vehicle after receiving a fake check there is NO recourse. Convince him it's a bad idea from the get go!!!!!
Hope...
great start, especially since they are hard copies, hard to find. Anything you don't have can be found here:

enter in "M35A2" or "M35" or 6x6" in...
under the truck, looking up at the transmission, you will see the shift lever, attached to the lever is a rod that goes straight back to the t-case, and that linkage drops down and is attached to a rod that goes into the front ouput of the t-case. The linkage between the two has a cylindrical...
in addition to the manual, be SURE to read the operator's manual, many valuable tips to operating the deuce:

I wouldn't get frustrated and call her a lemon just yet- as said, this is a common problem. The sprague acts like a overrunning clutch- it spins all the time, but does not transmit any real torque to the front wheels. It's usually only 6x4 all the time, and 6x6 with slippage. It only works...
as I mentioned there were a couple beadlocks about to hit the street that ARE legal, only problem is that doesn't make any of the others OK. Each wheel has to be certified.

honestly, I'd just run beadlocks or whatever rims you find. The chances of getting hassled are not very great, but just bear in mind they aren't "technically" legal, then again nothing else on the deuce is. If a patrolman were to really be looking for something (and ignore the fact the trucks...
"The 4-53 weighs 1175 pounds. Mine dynoed 160 hp and 495 ft/lb torque with C65 injectors. (Heavy black smoke excessive opacity note- Don't do that. C60 is as big as you should go.) Before you sneer, remember, this is 212 cubic inches. Always needed to be turbocharged."...
The REB shift kit is a manual conversion for the spragues- it takes off the front half of the case- the front output cover, take out the sprague gear assembly (the entire stack), put in their gears, disconnect the automatic linkage between the tranny and transfer, pop on their linkage, cut a...
as of about 1 month ago there are no beadlock rims that are DOT approved, but I do remember a manufacturer was about to come out with some. But, on the whole they are not, each rim will need to be certified and there are none for deuces. But, then again the tires and rims on the deuce are not...
by your description I assume this is a sprague front end, instead of an air shift frontend? Mine is in the same exact boat, my sprag engages sometimes, but never when I am stuck! [:)] It is a common problem on sprague trucks for the spragues to strip. Also, the linkage between the...
thanks- how much does the LDT465 weigh again? Reading around I found that the Detroit is 1175 pounds and one guy got 165 HP and 495 lb-ft. Not a huge bump, but still more. Only drawback is the noise and smoke. I can't see subjecting my neighbors or any traffic behind me to that, unless i...
what do you think? My dad's looking to get rid of his old truck that hasn't ran in years, a '78 Ford super duty with a Detroit 4-53, I believe it's supercharged, has a Jake Brake also. Needs something or other that he never got around to buying, but it still runs (or ran anyway). Loud, smoky...
Wow - those are great!!! The only thing is I wonder how many tires they went through. You'd think they would also put a sheet of steel over tha exposed rubber in the rear!!!
ahhh, the beauty of duals. As said, these things were WAY overloaded (even the 5 tons) with all that steel, and with...
