I've read most of that thread and am reasonably conversant in the issue.
What I'm looking for is a unimpeachable DoD document I can give to the State Patrol that will allay her fears.
I'm probably tilting at windmills by assuming the bureaucrats will listen to reason (or park their prejudice...
The state legislature in Washington will soon consider a bill that would include HMMWVs (30 year old) under the state's Collector vehicle category.
I've been told that the Dept of Licencing and the State Patrol will advise legislators on the appropriateness of the proposed legislation.
In a...
You might get some action of you call, or threaten to call, the Army.
The media, politicians and others (like your state Atty.General) would likely have something to say if an outfit, hired to sell govt. surplus items, is allegedly defrauding the public.
I could see them being found in...
I've noticed a popular vendor has a "no drill"
license plate attachment that uses existing holes.
If there are other similar holes (or bolts that could be removed, an item inserted and the bolts relaced) that would be one way to add back up lights and camera.
A piece of aluminium and a sheet...
Okay, I'll take the bait...are you a dentist or friend of a dentist?
If so, you need to continue the theme by putting a brush guard on your truck. :) :)
Good on ya'!
Despite it being a few gererations newer, I'm sure the vets appreciated it.
In the Air show world the Air Force has "Heritage Flights" where owners of warbirds like a P-51, P-47 or P-40 go through special safety training so they can fly a formation with a current fighter...F-15, 16...
I'm all for safety, especially if you're hauling kids...or anyone else.
But before you price yourself out of the market with a NASCAR-worthy safety cage, couldn't you build a a 4-point structure (or even 6 if you can fit bars near the A-pillars?) like you see on old CJ-5/7s and soft top Jeeps...
It certainly looks like it since it has the bows..if you check their website, they also sell just the canvas and other soft bits.
But I only know what I see on their website, so give them a call.
I don't even have my truck yet and I'm tempted to buy one.
I'd go with something like this...
https://www.bretonindustries.com/product/hmmwv-humvee-four-man-4-rear-cargo-kit-57k3499-cargo-cover-bows-mfg-2017-copy/
Govt. OEM supplier and the price seems very good.
I bought soft tops for my CJ-5, and know the limitations of civilian soft tops.
Personally, I think a 5500 lb HMMWV makes enough of a "statement' without add-ons. :)
In today's hyper sensitive climate (both of increased security and anti-weapons/anti-military/PC, etc.) I'd forgo such items because a lot of people won't appreciate the humor/irony.
Seriously, I could see...
A guy near me has an XM211...
I've been meaning to ask him about the "X".
The pre contract answer sounds correct, since his is not a prototype.
Years ago, in 1996-7, the first civil HMMWV I saw was an ex-AM General prototype. A collector in Marland found and restored it. It was the hit of the...
I would guess if there arose a question about the end user (say if you were a front for a terrorist group) they could take if If someone lied when bought.
Several years back they repossessed F-14s loaned (or some say bought) from the Navy...there was a concern parts could find their way to...
I suspect it was fear of the HMMWVs, owners rather than the light that protected your vehicles.
It's a comment on our society that while visiting a socially progressive (read lenient) city a few years back that my Ford truck was broken into despite being under a light and parked 50 feet from the...
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I've searched multiple threads.
The other week I found a photo with a link here for an ignition lock where the key fits in the center of the original flipper switch. I can't find it now. Anyone know more?
I've seen in eBay the system where the switch...
About 20 years ago I saw an ad for Dutch M38A1s in a UK Land Rover magazine, being offered by a UK surplus dealer. It said they were Complete Knock Down production (US parts assembled in Europe) and NATO war reserve surplus. I almost bought one.
When I started considering getting a HMMWV, I thought I better ask the question of whether I could get it licenced.
I stopped at a contract car licensing office and asked if I could run a HMMWV here.
They said no.
I called the DMV HQ in Olympia, they said yes.
I called the county licence...
Hi
I'm a new member. I was thinking of adding a HMMWV to my small collection. I'm retired military, so I have a soft spot for them, and I'd like something different.
I used a V-8 bone stock CJ-5 for seven years as my daily driver, so I know I'm not getting Mercedes-like ride, comfort or mileage...
