Painting the camper to match the HMMWV will prevent it from looking like Hooterville National Guard surplus.
Stencil "Command Post" or "Disaster Response " on it and people will get out of your way.
Back when I was in the AF, we had a Mobile Command Post truck painted up with the disaster...
Here is a wild idea...
Perhaps you could try the avionics shop at a local general aviation airport? They should know about antennas...at least more than the kid at a car audio shop.
Also, don't some CB radios use long, thick antennas that look like military units? I think I have seen some in...
I have heard that parts (at least readily available from non-military sources) for the 6.2 are hard to come by.
My local repair shop (staffed by former Chevy dealer refugees) said in terms of parts availability, to go with the 6.5 non turbo.
True...
No.
The truck I was looking at had an Idaho road title.
I asked the specific question and the Dept. of Liscensing bureaucrat said no.
I asked if we could come to some sort of good faith effort to make everyone happy.
No, he said.
I reminded him we are talking about a few trucks used under the...
In Respose to the reply I received from the state, I asked more questions.
The DoL rep answered them...

Good afternoon John,
I have answered your questions in the list below. To summarize – what you would like to do would require either for your...
Washington State reply: No way.
Here's a reply I got from the state HQ...
Basically, they say, if it doesn't have a FMVSS VIN form, they don't want to play.
Period.
I asked if they would consider a vehicle on a case by case basis....short answer "NO". More like Heck, NO!
I pointed out that...
I spoke to the Senator, the bill despite passing the first hurdle of the Transportation Committee, stalled.
So that's it for this year. I was given no reason for the action, or lack thereof.
Following up on "Coug" post of 4-17, I called a local licensing office, they had no idea what I was...
An update: the Senator's office told me the bill passed the committee unanimously.
At the last minute a group of WWII vehicle guys complained about the bill staying it's part about allowing HMMWVs to to be registered if safety mods were done, might force them to do the same with their trucks.
Seq...
I'm skeptical myself.
But at the committee hearing they seemed somewhat favorably inclined to remove the state's helmet law!
Now that was just the committee...and I doubt if the King County socialists would ever go for it, but it shows some independent thought goes on In Olympia.

The hearing went fine. The bill was read by a staffer who did a good job summarizing it, and then the Senator who sponsored it tried to discuss it without much luck.
There was one question from a senator...since the bill reads "military vehicles" she wanted to know if it was about tracked...

I called the county and Olympia. Both said no way. The woman at the WSP was particularly unhelpful listing the bogus concerns about the type. See my comments above.
The Dept of Licencing was better but resent I got from responses back.
I see you'll be testifying for the state!
I'm not a HMMWV owner.
I'll just refute some of the misconceptions the woman at the State Patrol daid.
The engines are basically GM units that did pass EPA tests, the suspension isn't different than the ones in the civil
H1.
They were safe enough...
The bill sponsored by my state senators up for consideration. I've been asked to testify.
-Does anyone have a list of which states allow HMMWVs on the road?
-Aside from dispelling some of the myths about the vehicle (weight, pollution, etc, )
does anyone have some salient points they would...
I'm really disappointed in the MVPA and its state chapter, you'd think they be all over this. But you're right, if guys own M37s or Jeeps, they don't seem to care...a short sighted view, in my opinion, given the pressure the hobby will likely face in the future from environmentalists...
Eastern Empire..
Being ex military (I spent time at Air Force Material Command HQ), I knew the Army must have a unit like TACOM that does R&D & procurement, and your reply saved me a lot of work.
Thanks.
Here in Washington, we'll be lucky to get the vehicles approved as occasional use collector...
