Tell you a little story... I bought a pump from our favorite surplus site; it was a cherry deal because the unit was brand speaking new. Even had the factory "unit shipped without oil" tag on it. Unfortunately, although it would start good and idle well, once you revved it up the engine would...
Mine came without fuel and it bled out pretty quickly. Probably the easiest one that I've ever done. That said, with the engine running it wouldn't hurt to crack the injector nut and see if you get any air out. After that, I'd start looking at the fuel filter. Maybe there was some sludge in...
Had one of my two YTX20L-BS batteries fail over the winter. Engine won't crank, but there does appear to be a glimmer of voltage. Removed the batteries and brought them home. After having it on the charger I'm getting a "polarity reversed" error. Reconnected the charger and it will charge...
Might be moisture. With the unit off, open the voltage switch cover and leave it open. Fire the unit up and let it run at high idle for 15-20 minutes. Shut it down manually, close the cover and the restart. See if that solved the problem. The overload circuit appears to be very sensitive to...
Yea, that outlet is only good for 1000 watts. Try testing it with something else. If it still trips, disconnect the wires to the outlet. If it holds, then the outlet is bad.
Connecting to the main terminals is super easy. Just follow the diagram.
But he has to lock the throttle to get it to start. Sounds like the the throttle isn't receiving power or it has a fault and wants to shut down. If that's true, then the load test is guaranteed to fail.
If it's smoking, then the engine is either overloaded or it's starved for air. Check the...
Grab a three prong plug in electrical tester from a big box store. You'll need one which has a button to test the GFI. Plug it in and see if it holds and then trips when you push the button . If it doesn't, the GFI is probably bad.
The generator will operate just fine without the ground rod. The purpose of the rod is to provide an opportunity for the unit to ground it's self should there be a short. If the unit (or the device it was feeding) had a short and was not grounded you could become part of the ground path (i.e...
There are two floats. One for the fuel gauge and one for the light. The fuel gauge has several small screws holding it in and the light is simply a round switch. Although others say that you should never need to adjust the magnet, I was never able to get mine to shut down without adjusting...
You certainly got lucky with that unit. Even with only 40 hours mine was a disaster for the engine, but the electrics were good. The engine parts are readily available and are surprisingly cheap. If I had a choice for a problem, I'd take a electrically perfect unit with a bad engine because...
I store my generator at my cabin up north in a garage. The floor doesn't have plastic under the gravel so it's a slightly damp in there. I've also noticed that if the generator sits out over night in the rain it will get a bit damp inside. Not wet, just a little damp. Well, the overload...
They're called split lugs. If you take the nut all the way off you'll see the groove the wire goes in. The nut should be captured by the wire bail so don't break the bail or you might lose the nut. You can put any under size wire under the nut and then just tighten it down. The connection...
I've found that if you flip the voltage selector switch open and then run the unit for 1/2 hour that it's enough heat to dry the moisture out. Shut the unit down before closing the cover. My unit seems to pretty sensitive to moisture and I need to do this fairly frequently.
