    Mod'ing a 923A1 Your thoughts, please

An interesting discovery today, if I delete the back axle on my M923A1 and move the exhaust and spare tire out of the way, the M109 box will fit exactly centered over the remaining back axle with 3” between it and the cab. I had to measure that twice to prove that to myself since an M105...

    Looking at my first 715

I don't mean to throw mud on anybody's favorite toy, but the M700 series engine was an overhead cam inline six and spent more time in the maintenance bays than it did in its place in the motor pool. You can't buy parts for that engine and many parts stores don't even show it. A friend of...

In the TM for the governor the springs have different part numbers. No idea what happens if you miss-match them.

    Dead Transmission on M923A1

I'm still holding out for long shots. Last Saturday we had to move the truck from its temp spot in the storage yard where the tow truck dropped it to my own little strip. It wasn't warm, but it wasn't so bone chilling cold, either. I was able to get the transfer back into gear and the symptom...

    Looking at my first 715

RE the engine: That was a big failure for Jeep and the Army as well. It was so bad that Jeep dropped it like a hot potato, but not before the Army ordered a bunch of them. The Army sent very few to Vietnam. Instead they rebuilt M37s, the old Dodge Powerwagon with a flathead 6, and sent them...

    Mod'ing a 923A1 Your thoughts, please

I agree about the comparison. I drove my M109 home from Ft. Riley, KS, 490 mi., and the M923 from Ft. Benning, GA, 1800 mi, and I definately like driving the M923 better, apart from the fact that the M923 blew out first gear 16 mi. from home. Added: I trust the brakes on the M923 better than...

    Kassel TFK-250 Field Kitchen

I have an MKT-85 that came with no burners. I got a lot of 4 working M-1 gasoline burners and parts for 3 more. I took the best M-1 and cranked it up in the back yard. After using Coleman stoves and lanterns for years, these scare the bejeebers out of me. I was in the process of converting some...

NHC 250 Oil Pressure drops out

It is an '84 M923A1 with a Cummins NHC-250 w/14,000 miles. The RPMs when I am worried are 2000 to 2200. I think bigboy44 and wrenchturner6238 have it right.

Yes and no. You also have to swap out the governor (not a big deal) but the 109 also needs power steering (also do-able). I once had a nightmare about dying and driving an F100 around a mountain for eternity. Ford didn’t put PS on F100s.

Need some help in Oklahoma City

If it isn't too long, you might get GL to extend your pickup time. I have talked GL into holding items before in order to match up EUCs. All the field people I have ever met are are really great. Give it a try.

    pioneer rack for m1009

Thanks, guys! Now I know what the thing in the bed of my M101A2 trailer out of Hooks, TX is and what to do with it!

I’m trying to decide what to do with my M109A3 deuce and my M923A1 5 ton and I’d like to hear from anyone who might have something to add. BACKGROUND I bought the M109A3 with the intentions of fixing up the box as my off-road camper to be used primarily in the Rocky Mountains. HOWEVER, it seems...

    M38A1 into Israeli colors

I vaguely remember the M38 with a 106 recoilless we had in the 15th CEB had a split in the windshield where the barrel rested. Am I right?

NHC 250 Oil Pressure drops out

One quart brought it right to the line, but didn't help the symptom. Another quart took it 1/16 inch over the line and seemed to help. I once had a Dodge Slant Six that if I filled it to the mark it would burn it down 1/8 inch in a few miles, then run fine. On oil changes the correct amount...

    Dead Transmission on M923A1

I'm figuring that by the time I get it freighted here and installed it will be around $1000, plus a lot of work. I estimate the transmission is in the 400 lb. weight range and that is a serious piece of equipment to lift. Furthermore it doesn't look like it is possible to go inside the cab with...

    Dead Transmission on M923A1

I just finished (almost) driving the M923A1 823 miles from Dublin, to Denver, CO. For the last two days it showed symptoms of trouble in low gear. It would buck and jump until it got into second. Because of logistic issues, we left it 16 mi. from the storage yard and came back 2 days later...

    M931A1 w/ Cummins NHC-250 won't start

I'm concerned about spray into the mushroom because there is so much pipe and air cleaner for it to go through. This morning it wouldn't start again, and I removed the air cleaner to get to the pipe. I used starter fluid, LOTS of starter fluid, almost a whole can. The engine ran strictly on...

Another Deuce that wont start...but does crank...

I didn't see anything about your in-tank fuel pump. There is a booster pump on the Injector Pump (IP) that can run everything as long as no air gets into the lines. If during the year it sat, the lines drained somewhere, the booster can't get enough fuel to run. Check the output of the...

NHC 250 Oil Pressure drops out

With the oil on the dipstick a little below the HIGH mark, when I start the engine the oil pressure starts out at 90 and stays there until I start driving. It begins dropping until after an hour it is right at the edge of the '0'. I put 2 quarts in so that it is 1/8" over full and it stabilizes...
