    Which TMs should I print?

ABSOLUTELY!! I had all the TMs on SS on a laptop when my Cummins NHS-250 tossed its water pump belt. I would not have figured it out without the TM that showed how to replace the pump.

Room on my truck and trailer

During the week of Thanksgiving, Nov 24 - Dec 1, I will be traveling and will have room in an M923 5 ton truck and an M101 3/4 ton trailer. I will consider reasonable off-route trips and I will only charge what it costs me extra, BUT I will have a chase car. That means gasoline at 20 MPG and...

    goose neck trailer hookup.

The cause of the oscillation for a trailer pivot behind the towing axle and its severity is a very complicated mathematical formula. I performed some of the analysis for a patent application about 20 years ago. Factors are: Distance from the towing axle to the pivot point: the smaller the...

    goose neck trailer hookup.

The reason over-the-road trucks mount their 5th wheel either in front of a single axle or closer to the front axle is because of the way a trailer starts into a turn. If it is mounted behind the center of the power point, as the tractor starts into the turn, the trailer actually starts the...

    Hearing Protection

Does anybody have a recommendation for hearing protection when driving a truck? While driving my M923A1 from Georgia to Texas I started out using my shooting muffs, the $50 variety. I found that when I was traveling below about 35 MPH they were great, BUT when I got above 40 there was a low...

    Potential Rocky Mtn Rally

I'll keep you in mind. You might recognize the last picture; if the photographer turned 180 degrees he/she could get a nice shot of the La Sal Mountains. You and Gunzy ought to get together; I think you're in spittin' distance of each other.

NEW Guy - Just won my M923A2 auction

If you drove one of these trucks in the service, you are probably one of the most qualified drivers to do a recovery. One point Chief_919 makes that I have to echo is that the cost of driving/flying to get it, fuel cost ( 10 MPG and $3.75/gal ) and overnight costs are significant and you need...

    The Series-Parallel Circuit: GOSPEL!

There are things you can do to burn wires, BIG time, and you can even explode batteries, all things I have done sometime in the past 50 years. I have never burned out a starter motor and that is what you will do if you put 4 12v batteries in a series. You will also burn out everything else...

Directions to bypass the Fuel Density Compensator

I suggest that you replace ALL the plastic fuel lines. The instructions tell you to take one line off and bend to use as a bypass, but mine broke before it bent because it was so old. My thinking is that if it is so fragile, it should be replaced anyway.

    Potential Rocky Mtn Rally

WITH RESTRICTIONS !! My certification has expired, but I used to be an NRA certified instructor/range master and I assisted with a shooting program for the Boy Scouts. Wherever we might go to shoot has to be approved by the local authorities and will be done only with supervision and range...

    Potential Rocky Mtn Rally

I would like to gauge the interest in a Rocky Mountain Rally, let’s call it the Great RMR. My vision would be of a multi-part rally starting in Utah or Western Colorado for Westerners and Eastern Colorado for Easterners. The RMR would culminate in a large campout somewhere in the high country...

    Need help choosing color

The M37s went out of service after Vietnam, so I seriously doubt that any ever got painted tan, if you're concerned about authenticity. Until about '68 they were painted dark green with white numbers and stars. Sometime in late '68 orders came down to paint them with black numbers. Though...

Can towing with the rear driveshaft connected cause case or transmission failure?

Ditto. Most of that gear was not intended to run that fast. The differentials are also a consideration and pulling the axles and hubs will protect them. It's easy enough to cut a piece of wood or cardboard to close up the gaping hole, which you need to do to keep things clean.

    New to this M101A1 Trailer

In the Army I had an M37 where someone had interchanged the RF brake drum with the LR brake drum. I had left handed lugs on the front and right handed ones on the rear!!

    Lightweight Vehicles

The US started out with the original Jeep in 1941 and part of its requirements was that it had to be small and transportable in a C47 Dakota. Since then requirements have changed and it got bigger in the ‘50s. Then it got much bigger with the HMMWV. Didn’t we lose something? It seem it’s a...
