Well, we're broken down in Jackson, MS., lost a waterpump belt 1 mile from a NAPA that had one. Going to finish the job in the daylight. THANKS SS FOR TMS!!
Well, we got it running and off post by noon.
Batteries were absolutely dead (0.02 volts). GL guy jumped another M923 to it and it cranked right up. After 4 hr of running I turned it off and it restarted!
I pumped up 2 tires using a hose off of the service side, 3rd tire, outside duel...
Got off to a good start BUT we won’t be towing the car behind the truck. Our ’96 Crown Vic isn’t in good enough shape to trust and my ’69 Bronco is far, far from able to make another big trip. When my wife picked the car, she rented a Jeep Liberty and it can’t be towed on a dolly because of...
I'm starting this thread early so that I can have a URL to send to friends before I leave; will edit.
On Nov 19, 2012 I have a date with destiny, GL pickup at Ft. Benning GA., a "Vehicle does not start" M923.
My wife and I are leaving this evening. We will spend Sat. night in Memphis TN and...
BAD BAD BAD !! !! !!
Don’t ever split the drain on your batteries PARTICULARLY WITH SOMETHING HIGH DRAIN AS A SET OF HEADLIGHTS!
Recharging the batteries can only happen in a series which means the other battery has to pass all the charging current needed by the discharged battery. This will...
Subscribe me; I pickup my M923 on Nov. 19, 2012 at Ft. Benning, GA.
I'm moving up from a non-turbo M109, so I expect to be blown away.
hasbeen, your depth of knowledge is greatly appreciated. When I understand it better I will definately refer to it. I have bookmarked this thread.
No good way. Resistors will dissipate as much energy in the form of heat as the headlights use. That will double the amount of current the headlight circuit pulls and would take huge resistors. It would probably blow fuses and/or breakers, maybe even overload wires.
And when you pull through the gate and the guard sees a civilian with a crap-eating grin, it’s priceless. Pulling up to the diesel pumps at the truck stops is interesting, too.
No. A sway bar, also called a torsion bar, is mounted to the axle by 2 (or more) bushings that let it rotate and at the ends to the body that twist the bar in torsion when one end of the axle moves up or down more than the other. I don’t recall ever seeing a sway bar on the front axle of a...
If it lasts another 50 yr. you'll be okay. As good looking as the one in your avatar is, I hope you are at least a little concerned about its looks.
I like your pre-'68 paint job. You know, I assume, that there was only 1 unit that painted the nose yellow and that in mid '68 all white markings...
Does “headed south” mean Ft. Benning, GA?
If yes:
What lot number did you get?
I got 11237-6110 and have a pickup date of Nov. 19.
Maybe you can take a quick look at mine.
I can’t think of anything else but the 3600 mi. round trip and my wife is getting tired of hearing about it.
I’m...
Something that isn’t mentioned much is the differences in M101s. An M101A1 has no active brakes, only parking brakes. An M101A2 has surge brakes and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND them. If you’d been with me coming off of Squaw Pass in My Bronco with a moderately loaded M101A1, you’d be a believer...
rrrr,
Thanks for your advice on tranny fluid and to others about shifting the Allison. I'm going in a week to pick up an M923 at Ft. Benning, GA.
Also, thanks for your avatar, I have been wondering what an M923 looks like next to an M35. Not as huge as I was afraid of. I think I will paint a...
I had that habit for a long time, too. For a while I worked with a professionally trained mechanic and would often see him stop what he was doing and go look up torque spec’s.
I learned that particularly on things like spark plugs and pan and valve cover bolts I was committing the too-tight...
No experience with an M1028 or GM trucks directly, but I believe you have a Dana axle under the front and I have lots of experience with them and the “Death Wobble” which is aptly named.
Part of this is predicated on whether or not you have a track bar on the axle; all coil spring solid axle...
