Use whatever is on the SF97.
I had a similar problem. The truth is that the military doesn't assign serial numbers to trailers the way they do to vehicles. Don't try to explain that to the folks at the DMV, though. They just can't fathom that.
I was going to say that $1000 is steep, but if so many guys think differently, maybe you can get your money out of it if you change your mind.
Do you ever get down to Grand Junction, CO? There is a running gasser there that is being stripped for its axles. Maybe the guy would deal. PM me if...
In August of '68 I and my rod-and-tape man were in an M109 very similar to the one I own now, and we were hot footin' it toward a little town called My Tho. Out of nowhere an MP stepped in front of me wearing glasses and lookin' just like Broderick Crawford. When I came to a stop he stepped up...
Sorry, m109guy. He can't send his truck that far north. He'll have to send it to me for checkout. He does need it checked out with an MKT behind it and I can accomodate him there. Thanks to Mike in SC I have the canvas almost up to standards.
Now let me make all of you guys feel bad, I paid...
The M715 (five quarter ton) and its variants like the M725 were supposed to replace all the M37s and variants, but the engine in it was a real motor pool queen. It was an overhead cam inline 6. Stories I heard about it (both civilian in the Jeep Gladiator and military) make it sound terrible...
x-ray,
Jump in, the water's fine.
I have been watching deuces coast to coast and I have noticed 2 things about Ft. Drum: A lot of nice looking trucks go through there and they seem to go cheaper than most. My advice is to pick a nice one (hopefully one that says "Runs" but not necessarily)...

By the way, DiamondJim, your last 2 links are broken.
CatMan,
Thanks for posting the pics. I drove an M109 (among other types) in Vietnam and have been planning to take my truck, a ’66, back to that style. I appreciate the paint info you posted.
GoHot,
In Aug. ’68 we got orders to paint our bumper numbers black and remove the stars and the “US...
The M715 never really made it into the Army ranks because of the engine that you couldn't get more than 20 miles from the motorpool.
Instead of taking M715s to Vietnam the Army rebuilt M37s.
My dad bought 2 Springfields and an Enfield in the late ‘40s and chopped all the stocks down. He cut...
MVrookie,
You're less of a rookie than lots on this site, having driven it that far. Do you realize that you're stuck with that moniker, even after you are no longer a rookie?
A couple of questions for Hundy:
Does that deuce have a muffler and if so what type?
What about turning the back...
In 1970 I surveyed the foundations on the addition to the Glenrock Power Plant. I was down wind of the coal pile and it took me months to get all the coal dust out of my ears, nose, etc.
BTW I like the tires you have on that rig. Are you missing the side panel to the engine compartment? In...
That could be right. It is possible that some time in the last few decades someone DID convert a lot of it to 12 volts. I looked at doing that and would have except the starter was the big problem.
There is even a wild possibility that they cranked the old beast with 12 volts. If the battery...
Were they cut by a fork lift? Three of my 4 M105s had forklift damage. Did you buy it from a Texas site? They sometimes do crazy things like drain all the fluids from a truck.
The folks at Ft.Riley are some of the best I have met. My money is that it will all be there.
Happy trails.
A friend of mine is also outfitting an M109 and bought a wrecked travel trailer to get the sink, stove, etc out of it. I have the same thing in mind.
If your trails ever lead through Colorado, drop me a PM.

We had a 10 ton tractor in our motor pool in Vietnam. The driver parked it with the engine kill lever pushed back in. We inadvertently bumped it on the rear with a D8 dozer and it started. Just before it reached a row of M151s a guy caught up with it and stopped it. It would have just climbed up...
Wouldn't it have been funny (maybe not) if it had suddenly come unstuck and slingshot forward?
I do admire the ingenuity and the self-confidence to let us poke fun at you.
