    Chineese Hummers

Don't confuse military HMMWVs with civilian HUMMERs. The HUMMER 2 bears no linage to a HMMWV; it is a redesigned Chevy Tahoe. You will notice that a HUMMER 2 has a conventional solid rear axle while a HMMWV has fully independent suspension. The only thing GM about a HMMWV is the engine and...

    Used a flamethrower tank?

Thanks for posting that. You may have spent more time looking up the 15th's history than I have. I only recently wanted to go back over any of that. A few months ago I opened a box of about 500 slides that has been sealed up since 1969. There may be some pic’s of the flame tracks in them. I need...

    Deuce Needs a Home

Here is a truck near Denver, CO that needs a new home. Owner writes: Here are the pictures of our 1960 GMC 6x6 Duece- It was converted to a Fire Truck for Elk Creek Fire Department in Conifer. We purchased it from them and used it for a water truck for our excavation company dirt compaction...

    Used a flamethrower tank?

Long story, but here goes. In ’66 an expeditionary force (Marines I think) went south of Saigon, but was repulsed. The US Army formed up the 9th Infantry Division at Ft.Riley with a lot of experimental equipment. One of the engineering battalions was the 15th Combat Engineering Battalion. A...

generator trailer burnt to the ground

Ditto When I was first married my father-in-law had a '65 VW that he loved and was always working on. When my POS would break down he would proudly offer it for a loan. Everytime I borrowed it something broke down from age, miles or just Murphy's Law. Years later my #1 daughter borrowed it and...

    Deuce to the Scrap Heap

I don't think that we in Colorado know much about building mud trucks. With California stealing our water, we don't have very much left with which to make mud.

    Deuce to the Scrap Heap

If the engine turned out to be decent, it might make a good bobbed deuce. Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you get a good turbocharged multifuel deuce (M35 or M109) through GL for around $2K plus the cost of fetching it? A recent issue of an off-road mag had a '60 Willys wagon with...

    Deuce to the Scrap Heap

That’s a real good point. Perhaps some other divorced transfer would be better. He’s open to suggestion, but I think he is going to want more than it’s worth. He mentioned $600 wo/axles. It’s probably possible to get it roadworthy, if you are up for a great adventure.

    Deuce to the Scrap Heap

Jon, ya want to make a trip with your deuce to Grand Junction? I just spoke to the owner and he wants to keep all 3 axles and the transfer case for a monster Chevy Suburban. If I had numbers on what people will offer for parts, I might consider a recovery. There isn't much that I actually...

    Deuce to the Scrap Heap

Data plate on dash says it is a M44, M45, M46, M57 or M58. There is no title. The owner only wants front and 1 rear axle for another project (probably a CJ-2!!). That being said, there is possibly a trade that could be made. Is that a military bed?

    Deuce to the Scrap Heap

This is a '62 2 1/2 ton truck in Western Colorado that is getting parted out. The owner does not have the title (probably never transfered from the government) and he wants 2 of the axles for another project. It reportedly runs. Is there any interest in the parts? The cab is reportedly off of...

    Lift pump?

Where did you put your pressure sensor? What is WMO? I drove an M109 overseas and deuces State-side in the 60’s and ‘70’s, but I couldn’t tell you if they were turbos or not. When I drove my non-turbo M109A3 from Ft.Riley, it didn’t perform as well as I expected and occasionally seemed to run...

    Turbo or non turbo??

The key to telling a turbo in the GL photos is the connector to the aircleaner (see attached photo taken from avengeusa's post). My M109A3 is non-turbo. On a non-turbo the connector is about 2 inches longer and doesn't have the slight bulge in the middle.

    Lift pump?

Carter makes a 24V in-line pump for about $70. I have a dead in-tank pump too, and am considering it. Does anyone have any experience with these?

How to properly tow a deuce

First, my experience is in towing 4x4s around the country side, but I have found that the only difference (beside different brake systems) is the size of the wrench you need. A deuce’s front hubs look like virtually any 4x4’s front hubs. A deuce’s rear bearings look basically like any other...

M37 for sale in Kansas City, MO

My butt got sore just lookin' at those pictures; they brought back some old memories. Where is the spare tire rack? I drove a '50 that was rebuilt in '66 and the rack was on the driver's door. Arlyn

I need an enclosed trailer to tow behind my Deuce

Keep us posted; we’d like to see what you do with it. If things continue the way they are going I might be living out of my M109, too.
