It's Home
I picked it up at Ft. Meade today. I pulled it home with my towbar and all went well. It pulled behind my F-150 supercrew with ease. I only had a 35-mile trip to make so I was tempted not to disconnect the driveshaft, but I did anyway. The only downside was one of the cups was frozen...
Welcome. About the only modification you can do to catch **** for is converting it to 12volt. :cookoo: Other than that modifications appear to be acceptable. :-D
I did the spin on filter mod and have had no issues without the heater. If your glow plugs work correctly it will start fine even in a cold climate. I have plenty of 15 to 20-degree mornings with no starting problems.
With the M1009 towing a M101A2 I would think the gear needed would be 3.42 or at worst 3.73 to keep the RPM's in check at highway and be able to tow well unless you are lifting and putting bigger tires on. I've towed my M101A2 with 1,000 lbs. on the stock 3.08's and it does fine plus I have 33"...
Not in my CUCV yet, but at my last oil change in my company truck the shop added it for free and asked me to let them know if I noticed any difference. It did make a difference in the low end acceleration.
I'll give you an example. I purchased via GL auction at Ft. Meade a M1028 2-weeks ago. I paid $2,170 + 10% BP. It will cost me another $60 to get the SF-97, and I don't know for sure what I'm getting till I pick it up. The pictures look complete, but it says it doesn't run. Could be something...
The main plan is to use it to tow my 18' deckover trailer and just to run around in. The current truck I use is owned by my company and I intend to get something more fuel friendly in the near future.
Thanks. I actually did that yesterday when I called to make my appointment. I tried to push...
Won this a couple weeks ago and I will be recovering my new to me 1028 from Ft. Meade on March 6th. My EUC came back yesterday and wouldn't you know it I have Jury Duty next week so I had to put off my recovery longer than I wanted. I don't like waiting till the 9th day in case something bad...
Try tire size 255 x 85 x 16. It comes out to 33" tall and 10" wide. If you search that tire size you'll come across a picture in here with a 1028 or 1008 with those and no lift. It looks good.
285 x 75 x 16 is close to the same size but more expensive.
That would be the wire end that connects to the glowplug. The 60G uses a big spade. The military uses small spade plugs. If your connectors are still original on the truck you will need to put the wider spade connectors on to use the 60G plugs. Not a big deal to do.
I agree with GMCV2500. I put a 2-1/2" lift on and run 33's without even coming close to rubbing the fenders. A 4" would be fine for 35's. My suggestion would be the Off Road Design 4" with a shackle flip in the back.
I had a similar issue a couple years ago. I replaced all the plugs and they went bad again almost immediately. Before I proceeded with the next set I checked everything and sure enough the glow plugs were staying energized which fouled them quick. I bypassed everything and manually energize them...
After being left stranded twice by the e-bay Chinese starters I used the Rosscommon method and converted to 12V and never looked back. It's been 2-years since and not a single starter problem. Considering all the people that have had starter problems with these starters I do not think it is the...
I understand now. I'm a glass man by trade so I can actually help with this one. As dodge man suggested soapy water really helps. The gasket holding the glass is kinda "H" shaped. One edge captures the glass and the other edge captures the top. When you remove the center cord of the gasket it...
Not sure i fully understand your question, but the m1009 came with fixed glass so that would be the preferred way if I know this crowd. I agree with you the fixed glass does look better IMO.
He is referring to the track the glass slides in as well as the working components inside the tailgate. Water will get inside and cause the lubricants to break down. This increases the force it takes to turn the crank handle and as stated they break easily. keep everything greased up and it...
I towed my m101a2 with my four wheeler in it and few other things on a 500 mile hunting trip with no issues using the bumper mounted pintle on my m1009. It actually towed much smoother than I expected.
I would be careful with the combo hitch. I moved one of my trailers around my house with the...
I have have not removed any of mine, but have thought about it as well. I'm anti-clutter about the house and my garage, but under the hood doesn't bother me as much as you I guess. Of course I haven't had the need to trouble shoot any wiring issues yet either, once I do I might change my mind. I...
