    Yet Another EESS Question

Hard to say which component went mammary glands up, troubleshooting and repair could be time-intensive but doable for someone with good circuit-tracing and repair skills. Best bet is replacing the box and temp sensor with the latest/bestest unit, often available in the $400-$500 range. Buy...

    M998 with 6.5 Wire Harness

So... the harness 12339350 for the 6.2L is ALSO used for the v-belt earlier 6.5L NA engines? There‘s some misinformation about this in the parts book/manual (I can only find ONE harness, one for 6.2L and the other for 6.5L NA) as well as on some of the larger parts sites like hummerpartsguy...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Few years ago, I bought a seat belt kit. My truck HAD the MWO done already, just needed belts. Turned out it was just easier to buy the whole kit, cheaper too, than look for new belts alone. So I stashed the aluminum reinforcement plates and doo dads until I was fitting the X-doors and...

    Hood Reinforcement?

I did this about three months after getting my truck. Gotta say, this one hack reduced engine noise by 6 dBa, improved mileage, stabilized the hood so it wasn’t flopping around like the Tacoma Narrows bridge at cruising speed, and, mysteriously, my scalp itch cleared up. Ahem... if it helps...

Can the Protector Box be repaired?

I was a roadie in high school back in the 70s, brother an electronics tech/IEEE engineer (who got me the job) and I did a LOT of tinkering, built heathkit stuff, know which end of a soldering iron to use and how to circuit trace. Thing is, when something’s as cooked as it appears to be with...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Two down, two to go. Then a little paint touchup... might even give the truck a once over so it all more or less matches. Behr paint holds up well, I think. Generator’s weathered well.

    MMMWV Wait Light

One of the first "hacks" any new HMMWV owner should do is the grounding harness and/or glow plug replacement. Smart start box is probably #2 or 3 on the list. Yeah, yeah, fluids, brake pads, coolant, etc, I'm just mentioning things to help it start reliably. When I upgraded to a 200A...

How I moved the 803 to the rear yard ALONE.

Foundation is 2x8 pressure treated boards, solid dirt underneath, tamped down, covered in several layers of visqueen, built the taper wall to more or less match slope of the yard at that side, one less thing to trip over. I stack two cords of wood on the patio/slab every year, usually burn it...

An hour? AN HOUR? You have GOT to buy a lottery ticket, RFN (that's RFQ for my southern friends). ;-) Norm

How I moved the 803 to the rear yard ALONE.

The tree’s just in front of the chimney to the right. I braced the front end of the trailer with a couple of boards, pulling them out as I transferred the weight of the 802 forward onto it with the comealong ratchet. Just in case anyone’s looking into options for moving theirs in future.

How I moved the 803 to the rear yard ALONE.

I brought mine home on a 4x8 folding trailer, one of those Harborfreight specials I'd bought off a neighbor years ago, registered in Maine and used to haul home an ATV, among other things. While the 803 was heavy, it was a few hundred pounds below the upper safety limit for the trailer. I...

    Resurrecting Oily Brake Shoes

JC Whitney and many other places used to sell kits for this. Good old fashioned mesothelioma-producing asbestos-bearing linings with rivets and you'd just drill, rivet and replace and drive on. I'd figure with the number of these trucks produced, and, industry being what it is, those pads...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Finally got around to starting a project I’d put off for a year - almost two - refinishing a set of x-doors. Fronts had been painted desert sand/tan fr some reason, I have a set of light steel armor plate I’m still not 100% decided on attaching. Got some glass, miscellaneous screws/fittings...

    Kent-Moore V-belt tensioner J-7316

Got it. Well, not really, but close. Phone number for Kent-Moore (aka „Automotive Service Solutions... Kent-Moore“ aka „Bosch Tools“ as identified when I connected to a person) is 1.800.345.2233 Turns out the part J-7316 IS in their computer, for „Heavy Duty Truck“ use, but it was superceded...

    Kent-Moore V-belt tensioner J-7316

Happened to come across one of these - came in a „box o‘ tools“ I bought a few years ago, never needed it until recently when I changed out my generator, PS pump, belts, etc. Using one of the little „klickit“ devices is awkward, hard to read, so I remembered this gadget and pulled it outta the...

    6.5 engine swap

For an idea of how many after market and OEM parts ARE available for 6.2L diesel motors, surf on over to the forbidden auction side (fleabay) and do a search for "6.2L diesel motor/engine/parts/rebuild/etc". There's only been several million Detwah (Detroit) diesels manufactured in the past...
