Multiple failure modes for the VR are quite possible – some, like a shorted output transistor – will produce over-voltage output. Other failures, like an open output transistor, should produce no (or very low) output voltage from the generator.
While having a failed-shorted output transistor...
Automatic field flashing inop? I forget if there's a manual flash switch in the 003A; I'll have to look a the TM for that information.
EDIT: Place the master switch in the START position once the generator is up and running at rated RPM to manually flash the field.
Give that a go and see if...
I carried an MEP-003A in the bed of a rental pick-up - so it's no issue what-so-ever for the smaller 002A. Speddmon is right - likely two of 'em would fit.
Now we've just got to work on you getting your ham license, BC - then you can use one of those RT-524 rigs on wide-band FM on the 6M ham band. Put 'em to proper use. Think I'll stick to smaller rigs for VHF in my deuce - since the GRC-106A takes up more than its share of space for HF.
An intercom setup (like the VIC-1 / AN-1780) with headsets is the hot setup; that provides you some hearing protection from the noise in the cab while allowing you to use the radio and talk to the co-driver, if present.
There are some light-weight headsets with boom mic that can interface...
MV Magazine always has classified ads for various tracked vehicles - some from folks mentioned above, as well as others. Tracked vehicles are not for the typical deuce owner that likes how inexpensive the vehicles are and how easy parts are to find. I keep thinking about a halftrack - but that's...
Interesting the HMMWV uses cables that long. I bought the 18 foot cable that was on eBay from Canada - and use in the HMMWV makes sense, given the date on the sealed plastic bag - 2001.
Congratulations on passing your test. Been a ham since I was a kid - just after the time my deuces were rolling off the production line.
I purchased a VIC-1 intercom configuration to install in a deuce; they are easy to interface to various types of rigs, and provide the ability to talk to one...
Great news, Jonathan! Glad to hear you got it running.
I've found it handy to have a length of fuel line ready for the AUX fuel input. If you've got oil fired heat, you can let the generator fill its day tank by dropping the AUX fuel line down the filler neck for your home heating oil, or put...
You might be able to get someone to do a recon of some sets - always worth keeping in mind. Paying someone for time and trouble to take a quick look could end up saving you a lot in the long run. Otherwise, it's a gamble - not only for the genset itself, but fees, taxes, and trucking. It adds up...
Welcome to the site.
Speddmon provides very good advice.
The 003A - and the 002A for smaller applications - are wonderful gensets. Once running, they should provide you with a good long service life. Take care of them with oil changes, clean fuel, and some common sense and you'll have a...
Yes, I typically keep it in an unheated garage. That's good for about a 10 degree rise over the outside temp at night. I have a deep bay, and a short car (Audi TT), so I can place the genset at the back of the bay and not have an issue - other than not being able to get to the Pratt & Whitney...
Mine started :-) Had to carry it over to the deuce with the tractor to borrow some battery power (I've removed the batteries from the genset and have them in the basement running the GRC-106A - but that's another story). Crank for about 10 seconds until there's good oil pressure, preheat for 45...
I think the issue of whether they change the classification of an item, or simply want it back is a distinction without a difference. Why? Because if they want something back they can always change its classification from a commodity item to a demil code and then demand it be returned. Remember...
A noble idea. I think I'll drag mine out of the garage and do the same; I've not run it since about Christmas - and it's always good to get it some exercise.
