As many folks have already stated, they are affordable and can haul just about anything you'd need to haul with a ranch truck. You can even fix them - because there's no darned computers or sensors in them to fail. All this - and for less than you'd pay for a clapped out used pickup truck...
It is unquestionably your truck and not all trucks; you need to start troubleshooting to isolate the issue. My two M35's go for weeks without any discharge issue.
You might also have soft batteries that can't hold a charge for any length of time (self discharge). You can test for this easily...
If you want to reduce the electrical noise ('whine' or 'hash' are typical names) from an alternator, the right place to filter it is right at the terminal. They may not have had enough room inside the alternator package to make a sufficent filter, and had to add an extra cap outside to knock the...
Sorry to hear about your disaster.
This is one of those things that has been talked about at great length in various MV publications and club newsletters; when you get a new truck, always check that the shear pin is of the correct material.
Could it be that the winch had other problems and...
Things like that happen all the time to me - but not typically with a military surplus piece of equipment; usually it's an item where I have some bizarre esoteric knowledge that has nothing to do with what I do for a living. Displaying this knowledge typically puzzles your coworkers. They either...
You can check for proper fuel delivery by adding a pressure gauge to the IP inlet. I used a cheap one from the local auto parts store when debugging my MEP-003A that could indicate the pressure into the IP from the fuel pump. If you see a pressure drop or pressure becomes unsteady before / while...
I've pulled valve covers off while retiming an IP; the gaskets are thick rubber and should survive being removed and replaced nicely (they did on mine).
Interesting that SF said they wouldn't cover it - I have two deuces insured with them (but in NH). I went with them because covering deuces wasn't an issue at all - so I moved all my business over to them.
An m1008 or m1009 is really a civi vehicle with some electrical and other minor...
I keep my throttle setting at the last known 60 Hz setting - just let it spool up quickly, and remove the load and let it run at speed for a few minutes before shutting down. Never do much more than tweak the throttle setting to keep it on 60 Hz.
As a point of reference, I had my 003A running...
Welcome, and thank you for your service.
The general wisdom is that all deuce fuel gauges lie. The overall accuracy will vary from truck-to-truck, and on one truck sometimes it will vary moment-to-moment. Carry a wooden stick and a flashlight to stick the tank for confirmation of fuel level...
I could be wrong - it has happened a time or two in the past (just ask my wife), but that wasn't my understanding. I'll have to go have another read through the rules. Given travel to MA and other states from time to time it probably suits my needs better to not have antique plates on the trucks.
The manuals on the AMBAC site are great references for the pump itself. Much of the inforamation in the TM is verbatim from AMBAC where the pump is concerned.
I'd let it run a little and see how it does; might just be dry or deformed O-ring(s) that will get a little better once submerged in...
