Cyclejay, I too keep my trucks original, except for when the factory simply made a mistake. Here is the original relay and it is very underpowered for what it was intended to do. It has cost many people a lot of money on repairs that should not have been needed.
Doghead's mod is a great...
The axle housing is not pressurized, otherwise the seals would pop.
I take the transmission filter off and let it run into a pail so I am not sure of the pressure, but the transmission does put out a lot of fluid in a short time.
Rossbart, I have two trucks with no regulators. I got the bypass parts at Lowes.
The regulators seem to serve almost no purpose as these units are designed to use on trucks with up to 250 psi and ours only run up to 130.
After I did the mod I took the old relay apart.
Anyone that wants to put that thing back on is a little crazy in my opinion. It is weak in every aspect.
All the mod does is make it so a generic heavy duty relay can be installed.
Apparently this is a great alternative for worn out engines. I found this thread about sleeves:

I read your question and took the old girl out for a spin to see what I noticed. My opinion is on mine if your were deaf and could not hear the engine you would not know when it shifted. The tach gives it away as does the noise but not the feel.
Without the resister they are all fed 12 volt. If one fails the rest still get 12 v and so on till the last one dies. Still 12 volt. The resister changes that.
