no biggie, I just talked to Alex and #186 that I have my eye on is the standard 12' bed. Don't know if I'd be able to fit anyhting longer in my driveway!
good news, it looks as though Hagerty will take the deuce for a good price- $165 a year considering I'm 24. I quoted it being older and it said $90. Then I called and can get my bucket and Ducatis over there all under one roof and pay about 1/4 of what I'm paying now. Ooohh boy, can't wait...
can you fit 14x20 singles on a deuce? and is it safe to assume the first number is the sidewall height, then you add that x2 to the rim height. It looks that way if 9x20's are 38" and 14x20's are 48", so that would make an 11x20 42"?
thanks
yup, unfortunately though Nevada started smogging all diesels 1968 and newer :(
but, since the cutoff is 10,000 pounds or under (they're targeting cars and light trucks) I'm good to go. Which is a double dodged bullet since a family member whom I'd prefer not to associate with runs the only...
for all those who've registered deuces, what is the official GVW? Is it listed on an inspection plate on the truck, or the title or what? I think I'm home free since in NV CDL's are required for 26,000 or over, and smogs are required for 10,000 pounds and under. Even with the 10k capacity...
hey, thanks! great stuff moderator- maybe we can post a link to this in a thread at the top for "newbies" like me. Some really basic info, but great for somebody who has never been around these trucks and doesn't know the...
thanks. Is it bad mainly cause it's hard to load, or there is no real room to put your tie downs at the best points, or something else? From the looks of it, say I could get the truck on finding the right point for the chains and stuff would be impossible, they'd need to be underneath and at a...
anybody ever fit a Chevy truck in the back of a deuce, like a dropside probably? I want to put my shortbed "CUCV" in the back if need be. I'm thinking either the front bumper would need to come off, or an extension would need to be built. We'll see <img...
that's what I'm thinking. I'm going to first try to get a quote on a 1970 Kaiser large truck or something generic like that. I won't use any words like "Deuce" or "6x6" so that my agent isn't scared. I have a feeling it's going to be a crap quote though since he wants $800 a year for a...
can it be done? What exactly should you look for? Also, any easy ways to tell different years apart?
the 1C is more desirable right since they changed a bunch on the D for emissions?
thanks
hmmm.... I'll have to look into that. Here in NV Country INsurance is underwritten by Farm Bureau, that's who I have. I guess I'll have to really try to track down my agent and ask about the historical plan. thanks
my insurance agent is pretty much blacklisted as of today, he refuses to return any calls and between my brother and I we have a house, truck, car, three motorcycles, and a t-bucket insured with him, go figure
anyhow, I assume many of...
laugh out loud! man, I had no idea. When I repaint it olive drab (34087) I was thinking of leaving the numbers off anyway, I get too many questions :) We'll call it M1073b
it is aervoe light green #34151
I'm looking into that for sure. 421 miles away is a little better :) Looks like they have a large selection of clean trucks too. Anybody bought a deuce from them and were you satisfied? How long have they been around? After sale support?
Nothing personal, I just like to research all...
in my quest for the deuce, west coast offerings are slim to nil. Am I missing any perhaps? I want to avoid auctions from the stories I've heard, and have seen quite a few private sales but (honestly, that's what it comes down to) the prices don't really match the trucks I've seen.
I've...
is it safe to assume the Rockwells act just as any other open differential? When people talk about locking out the rear axles, is it the same as the front where you somehow get rid of the splines, and therefore the wheels will no longer be locked to the axles, but one or both of the axles may...

I used successive passes with the transfer punches and the drillpress to copy over the hole circle from a driveflange that had been removed from an axle.

OK, cool. after rereading your...
now I'm really confused- are you saying you used the flange to make the pattern for yours? If not, then did you modify one? in any of those logsa manuals is there a diagram of the front axle? I was under the impression the flange was that center piece that you took the plate, drilled the...
hey Trango, I was reading your previous topic on the axle lockout:
http://www.steelsoldiers.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=477&SearchTerms=spline
and just to clarify, pretty much both methods are exactly the same, you just made your own "flange". Is that right? I could do that pretty easy...
