Obviously a lot of thought and work has gone into setting up the interior in the pictures above, but personally I don't like things mounted up high or sticking out. Perhaps it is because I sit tall in the saddle, so I don't like anything that I can hit my noggin on or that blocks a line of...
When you spread the track of your front wheels, they no longer steer properly. Stock. there is an imaginary line that intersects another vertically thru the king pins just below the surface of the road This way, as the front wheels steer, they pivot along this imaginary intersection.
When you...
You might need to add a lubricant even if you are running straight diesel. In the States, we have gone to ultra low sulfur diesel. This fuel does not have enough sulfur to provide lubricity for the injection pump. I do not know what type of diesel fuel you have over there. There is a...
For applications where you would normally use JBWeld, I have found Marine Tex to be far superior.
I agree, though, that using it any epoxy for the type of repair described is a field expedient at best. If youneed to go this route to temporarily improve the situation, you will get better...
When you need to move it from antique to standard, sell the truck to your wife. She registers it as standard. Done. You might even be able to have her sell it back to you before she registers it.
Looking again at the tools shown in the photo above, let's dissect them:
The ball pein hammer is any old ball pein hammer.
Screwdrivers are screwdrivers.
Pliers are pliers.
Crescent wrench is a crescent wrench.
Valve spring lifter - I have had one for 40 years and I have never used it...
That clarification helps. I remain puzzled by the statement 'near impossible to acquire'. If you mean, for example, the exact oil can that some subcontractor produced for this unit in 1944, I would agree. But that is also the great so what. Any oil can will work. And if you search 'antique...
Are you looking for original tools for display purposes?
Or are you truly just working on that flat motor? If the latter, you can make do with any of your conventional hand tools. Even for that valve spring lifter. The valve springs on these motors are not exactly Pro Stock strength. You...
There is no reason to run two except for the emotional appeal of elegant symmetry.
If you run one, the axle on one side runs forward at road speed. The diff carrier is not turning since the transfer case is not engaged. The other (disconnected) axle stub turns in the opposite direction at...
Maybe masking tape sticky side out on the end of a screwdriver. Use it to get the nut positioned over the stud and then use something to spin it back on - maybe the flat of a screwdriver to hold the nut down and another to spin it using the flats.
For future reference, there are custom battery services for the R/C vehicle hobby. They are easily found by searching, they will build you a battery pack to your specifications pretty inexpensively.
I agree that it is possible for wrap to contribute to rusting from the outside in, just that it can not promote rust from the inside out. If it is kept tight, no tears and covered with the sealer (high temp paint) it should not ever rust. I guess anything is possible, though. Maybe it helps...
How could wrap make steel pipes rust from the inside out?
The steel is not porous.
Inside-out exhaust pipe corrosion is caused by frequent start-stop cycles where the pipes do not get hot enough to dissipate the corrosive acids that are present at a cold start. The pipes just get warm, then...
If I am not mistaken, Jaguar XJ sedans (XJ6 and XJ12) were set up this way. A dash switch toggled the fuel gauge to the left or right saddle tank. The tanks were mounted in the trunk. The same switch toggled solenoid valves for the feed and return. When a return valve died, you could...
