My buddies 712M turning into a radio truck

There you go. Not the easiest to get in for us older guys but a fantastic bit of engineering. Mark

My buddies 712M turning into a radio truck

Yeah he has had the 712M for over 12 years and it is in unreal shape. Even has a halon fire system in the cab as well as climbing gear and breaching equipment. It's amazing what this truck can do with just a little 90hp engine. I picked up a M101A2 because it fit the size for the Pinz very...

Was there a final correct answer on the LM/FMTVs being EMP proof ????

If a Carrington event happened today and the U.S. was in a direct hit path it would be catastrophic for us in ways we can't even imagine. Wide spread power outages, gas stations immediately shut down, banks close, supermarkets run out of everything. No heat no air conditioning. People panic and...

    Anyone recognize this sound

The snap seems to me to be the belt slipping out of the pulley track then snapping back into place. Mark

    New to me 998!

Maybe haul a radio shack trailer with a small genset to run everything. My buddy has a crazy setup in his Pinzgauer 712M. I'm going to set up a 2 meter rig in my M998. There are a number of hams on this site. Mark N1FTC

I dont trust my oel pressure display

As long as you are showing pressure when running you should be good to go. These gauges are notorious for their bounce and inaccurate pressure readings. When running mine could be at 90psi or 30psi with a lot of bounce. I changed out my senser and had no change so I will replace the gauge with...

    Head gasket thickness

Oh sorry didn't see that pic. No pitting on the walls? Damn she might be a runner. Mark

    Head gasket thickness

You have to see just what shape the cylinder walls are after you clean them. Is the engine frozen? Hopefully the rings are not frozen in place. Not sure if those cylinder walls are OK. Mark

Need help understanding all the Humvee tire choices

I always had a saftey concern removing the run flats with the 37s. If cruising down the road and having a blowout without the run flats that wheel is going to abruptly drop over eight inches. That is a tad concerning. Mark

    Backfiring

I was looking at the top of the motor but yep those diaphragms do fail. Mark

    Backfiring

Unless you had a stuck float or a needle and seat issue with the carb there is no way to dump enough gas into the oil to be noticeable. Any gas in the oil will go away as soon as the engine reaches temperature. I know I am dating myself but gasoline was once used to cut the old stright weight...

    Hood hook seals

Just variances between hoods and the rubber looks a bit old. Just trim it a bit and down the road you go. Mark

    Starter bolt broke

Are you saying you don't have a rear bracket for the starter. That is a buttload of weight to be cantilevered out supported only by two starter bolts. Like I just read about the Space X test vehicle's explosion today. Rapid unscheduled disassembly What a great line that it. Mark

    Backfiring

Replace it and when you have it out try to blow through it. I'm sure it needs to be changed anyway and you can cross it off the list. Mark

    Starter bolt broke

Yeah no lock wahers. The problem is the bolts are not very thick and the starter is very heavy. Just the way it is. Mark

    Backfiring

Was just thinking the same thing. Truck sat and then started to be used and garbage from the tank makes a mess of things. Mark

    Backfiring

Well you need to start doing some detective work. Pull the dist cap and check the points if good lube the shaft and set the points for .018". Next disconnect one of the spark plug wires and with a spare plug see it you are getting a hot spark (running) so you know the coil is ok. How long has...

    Starter bolt broke

On my M998 I was able to walk it around with a good sharp punch. These bolts typically fail not because the get rusted in place but because the base of the bolt work hardens from the weight of the starter and the torque of the starter. Replace both for sure and make sure the rear bracket is...

    Backfiring

Carb needs to be rebuilt is a very likely cause for the problem if it has been sitting. I had a 51 M42 and went down the same road. Mark
