I think it's to "store" lubricant and when the cable is stretched it sort of greases the cables. I think. Not a wire/rope expert.

The Lube Order for the M44 series is confusing to me; it seems to call for both OE/HDO with is effectively engine oil and CW lube, which is chain and wire lube, which I assume in the civilian world would cross over to chainsaw oil................ (guessing).

It's unrelated, all those stupid F134 pulleys are out of whack and no one repros them and with them all being bent, I suspect a great many sling the nut off.
So, on the F134, the crank spins the cam via the fiber gear NDT mentioned. The cam then spins the oil pump, which engages with a gear halfway down the cam. The distributor shaft fits into a recess in the top of the oil pump drive shaft. The good thing about this is that there is no timing...
So I've got this truck I'm getting ready to sell. And I needed to rewind the cable since someone in a motor pool wound it backwards. And I needed to inspect the cable for kinks and damage and service it (lubricate it).

This is my system and it works well. The drums gets cleaned out with paper towels, then put in the parts washer. Spindles, backing plate, shoes, etc. get soaked with a degreasing solution and pressure washed.
