    Cooler failure

Well I'm pissed off and disgusted today !!!! About 4 weeks ago we had a total power failure at the house. So I started up the good old MEP-003 and powered up the house. My new shop is "not" on this generator and I did not think about my military freezer unit which I had stored in the new shop...

    Ring to pinion backlash question

When I was rebuilding differentials on a daily basis, I never went past .016" for backlash. Even on the most worn gears. Anything past .016" just brings problems down the road with the gears "slamming" into each other when shifting manual transmissions or going back and forth between reverse and...

M109A3 (M35A2) Shop Van overheating .... my steps to cure

First remove the pump and disassemble it. Then you can measure the pump shaft and then the seals outer diameter and using the charts provided by most seal companies (CRC, Timken etc.) you can find the perfect one to fit.

M109A3 (M35A2) Shop Van overheating .... my steps to cure

The trucking and transportation industry went to plastic fans decades ago. There just far better than the metal "spinning blades of death" fans. Plus they save on fuel too. Less parasitic drag on the engine.

M109A3 (M35A2) Shop Van overheating .... my steps to cure

Water pump seals do not "regenerate" with use. More than likely your seals are dried out and now that you used it, they are torn up. Also the weep hole is supposed to point down not up. That way you're not spraying coolant all over your engine when the seals go bad. You can rebuild this pump...

    Air powered wiper Questions

Gerhard is correct. Most all air-wipers just need a little oil like "Marvel mystery oil" to get them to function properly again. As far as which is best, air or electric. Air can handle more weight like "snow" . Electric tends to shut down when exposed to too much weight/burden like heavy snow...

    Spoon’s build thread

I know ! Hydraulics are an amazing force to use, especially on military trucks. Brakes, steering, radiator fans, winches, booms, outriggers, tools. The list just goes on and on.

    M35a2 automatic transmission swap?

Exactly. That is why you can use the Allison 1000/2000 series transmission behind the Deuce engine. The bell housings on these transmissions all come off and you can get anything from a SAE 1 to SAE 3 adapter for them. Of course the Chevy bolt pattern also if you so choose. Can you say DuraMax ...

    Spoon’s build thread

Here I'm using my new crane to lift and hold my 300Ibs frame for my welding "platen" . No way I could have done this without my crane. At least not as easy as I did.

    M35a2 automatic transmission swap?

Our Deuce already has a "SAE" adapter for the Spicer transmission. That is how my Allison will adapt to the engine. The problem is the "flywheel" which I have. It was designed to fit the Allison 540 transmission which corresponds to the Allison 1000/2000 transmission. I was going to have my...

    Spoon’s build thread

Silverstate55 was spot on here !!!! I had major surgery on my right shoulder including repairing two bad rotator cuff tears. My left shoulder was just as bad but I retired and haven't used my left arm as much since. So I saved myself the surgery. I've had 5 major back surgeries, the last...

What are everyone's thoughts on 4-door M35A2 crew cabs ?

There's been several 4 door Deuce's made up here. One even here in Washington state. They look really cool if done right and seem to be very structurally sound. If I had the body work skills to do it, I would do it to my Deuce.

    Need Help after Transmission Rebuild

Hey M1010plowboy, how you doing ? The problem with the old dual range hydro's wasn't so much the valve bodies since they are extremely simple but the many lines and servo's used in this transmission. The rear band servo holds almost a half a quart of fluid in itself ! Then there is the rear pump...

    Any A/C professionals here?

You have to consider the placement of the valves in orientation to the evaporator . If you mess that up you could have a valve freezing or worse, letting liquid Freon (dichloro-difloro methane) get to the compressor. I used to install new A/C systems in vehicles and if you messed up your...

Glad to hear your doing well ! My back surgeries did not go so well. Just don't push yourself and reinjure your back.

    Continental's CMD-350; a 350HP multifuel engine

Thanks Jason. That is really quite cool ! So the piston itself was a "self contained" unit. Wonder if any of those pistons survived.

Reuse head gasket if not run yet

OK I know I'm really taking this thread off topic, but one last question. How high can the rotary engine rev ? I'd heard they can be real screamers which would make them extremely good for racing and possibly plane engines, or hovercraft engines. Is that correct ?

Reuse head gasket if not run yet

So basically "drive it like you stole it ! " kind of thing.

    Continental's CMD-350; a 350HP multifuel engine

I had three 1940's IHC TD6 dozers that also started that way. My TD14 out back also started that way. Now it's a yard ornament since the differential broke.

    Continental's CMD-350; a 350HP multifuel engine

I was thinking the same thing about failures too. Like what happens when a bearing starts to get loose due to wear and oil pressure drops on that rod only. Lets say oil pressure drops on that rod and that piston change it's compression and the others don't. Now we have a severe compression...
