First off, that is a great looking shop you have there !
Now about the tires. I buy tubes from a commercial supplier for over-the road trucks. Anyone that sells medium to large truck tires will sell 9:00 X 20 tires and tubes and flaps. You don't need "military" tubes or flaps, your just wasting...
Fatsco does not carry any parts for the reduction side of the HydraMatic transmission. Tried that years ago. According to the sells rep, those parts are so obsolete that no one in the world will ever make them again. Guess he was correct. I've searched and finally had to buy spare transmissions...
The Rockwell axles work great as long as you use the original tires and not those monster truck tires like the 395's everyone loves to put on their truck. The only axles I ever saw break had huge tires on them or they were out 4X4ing in a mud bog.
As far as the output shaft on the transfer case...
In Ballard (part of Seattle) there are several Machine Shops that take care of the Alaskan fishing fleet. They can do everything including complete overhauls of any diesel engine. I take my diesel engines heads to one in particular on Shilsoe Avenue to get machined flat and have valve jobs done...
The drivetrain should not be a problem unless your going for 800HP or more. The "U"-joints are more then capable of handling well over 800 ft Ibs of torque. Just keep them tight and lubed. The Rockwells also can handle a lot of torque and power. The transfer case is just a beast of a thing...
Usually you should stay with the same style and manufacturer when switching out injectors. Since it is becoming harder to find a new/good used set of six injectors you might just have to mix and match. That being said, you must make sure they have the same size injection holes, and put out the...
The best engine for the Deuce would be a truck diesel. Having said that there are many gas engines that were created as truck engines. What are the differences you say ? For one the blocks were usually made of heavier castings (stronger) , the "thrust bearings" were much stronger (bigger) , and...
That is a great looking truck ! I need one in that condition for my engine modification project. I found a late model HydraMatic (1955) that came out of a V8 chevy car. Has the early style small block housing. With all the spare transmissions I have here and all the NOS parts I should have a...
Part off the problem is the sky-high price of copper and brass right now. Also most manufactures no longer make copper cored radiators. There almost all aluminum today. So to find a company that will make a real copper cored radiator with copper or brass tank tops is rare and costly. The one...
I'm sorry for your loss "m1010plowboy". I lost both my parents within a year of each other. That was over twenty years ago now, but I still miss them.
That "O" ring on the flywheel is to seal the torus ring just like "M37Keppy" said. There is of course that large "O" ring that seals against the...
Your trucks looking pretty good ! I like the idea of mounting your 9:00X20's to that nice green pick-up.
That way you can go and scare little Toyota Pruis's . :devilish:
Centrifuge is really the only safe way to go. The metal particles in used engine oil can ruin your injection system really fast. Even filtering down to 2 microns still allows small metal particles through that will damage your pump and injectors.
I bet your glad you didn't mess with the injection pump now !
These old diesels need to be run on a regular basis or bad things happen. It was very gratifying to hear it come to life !
Now is the time to run a good engine cleaner through it and then change the engine oil and filters. Then...
What's sad is that the powers that be might use this incident to try and ban the sell and use of older military vehicles. Stating it can be used as a weapon of mass destruction ! So for the publics good they must be taken off the roads.
Thanks Gerhard ! I tried for quite a while to find that post.
You asked in that post about "real power steering" . I had referred to my future power steering project in that post which "7bdiver" has now done. I got sidetracked with all the other projects here, number one being my new shop. The...
I forgot to mention, there is two different housings for the steering gear. One has a tendency to crack. I posted pictures showing the differences between the two. You cannot depend on the age of your truck either for which one you get. I've found the bad ones on later years and the good ones on...
