According to a talk i had with maccus last night you are indeed right. Grade 8 bolts and the all metal locknuts also in grade 8. He was saying that while lots of places have the grade 8 bolts they most often only carry softer nuts. Make sure you get the grade 8 nuts or they can crap out and come...

i suspect it would, at least keep the bolts from departing the assembly. Think it would hold for a while if the bolts were still through both plates

we must be thinking of dirrerent bolts.......they have to be waaaaaay bigger than 1/4 -20, the nuts are 3/4 and the 1-3/4 length sounds about right

The truck isn't registered yet so it isn't going anywhere. I fully intend to get new locknuts, had to tighten the old ones to get it back to its parking space. You wouldn't happen to know the bolt size off the top of your head????

I think i'm in the same boat as you steelandcanvas. A bit smokey at startup but after a few min of warmup time, all clear. Puts out a nice puff of smoke if you give it some go pettal though. But that i like :D :D :D
