Thats too nice to scrap...sure is purdy. Hopefully one of you guys can wrangle a deal. Just keep in mind what CS said "it is a pile of aluminum" with scap prices where they are that makes it worth a bit. Not nearly what i think it's worth but.....
M35- I'm not trying for an oil powered centrifuge. I think that 90% of the posts in this thread are referring to a direct drive style cenrtifuge like those featured at simple centrifuge. Just google it and you will see what i mean. While the oil powered units look nice, they also look like a...
eh, thanks but no thanks. Did a bit of googling and found more than enough pics, vids and measurements that i am entirely confident that i can whip one up in an afternoon, weedend at the most. When i get around to actually doing it i'll post up just how to go about getting it done cheaply.
Larger diameter, lower RPM. OK that would work, at least theoretically. I'm just not sure that cooking pans are held to any kind of spec to be spun at any speed. Sure it looks balanced but at a few K RPM full of oil and it might be a different story.
hmmm, brake rotor, hadn't thought of that. Found a site selling plans for 30$, with a claimed material cost of 50$ + your time machining and a motor. For a guy like me with machines and a bunch of motors kicking around it should be a sinch even without the plans. Blood....i think you may have...
It all seems so darned pricey!!! Maybe it's because i happen to have a lathe and milling machine here but it really doesn't look very hard to make a centrifuge rotor like the ones shown at the simple centrifuge site. I may just have to go get me a block of aluminum and see.
Hmm, only 5 or so hours drive. If this lack of a job persists i may take a ride down. It would be fun to meet some of you guys. Now all i need is a SS shirt to make me stand out :-)
I think thats about all the motor you can cram under that hood  Lookin good with the rear moldings removed and i like your train of thought on the crane. Keep us posted along the way.
By the way, if anyone does have anything big and or heavy, with wheels they need stored for a short time. I have acess to a dually dodge pickup and several places to park things on a short term basis, or i could tow it to someone elses place to store. Just tossin it out there. There dosen't seem...
You luck dog, I can't seem to provide adequate habitat to coax one MV to live here, you appear to be set up well enough that breeding pairs feel comfortable. Be careful, mom and dad might get protective of the wee one.
It's gotta be harder than that. You make it look far to easy. What kind of total cost are we talking here. Last i checked those lockout hubs were pretty pricey (worth it though) and i'm going to guess the axles were not cheap.
I dunno, 1 st one looks fairly authentic, real or not. In the desert, calm day, level ground. Ground effect should be fairly predictable. Still a really risky pass. Those other pilots in tha last 2 are simply insane as well. When i'm flying i prefer to avoid getting close to stationary objects...
