My Registration
I have it register as a N.J. code 15 vehicle. That's a commercial vehicle registered non-commercially. It means that I can't use the truck for profit or hire, but I can drive it anywhere I want to day or night. The registration was about $175. $300 less than it would cost if it...
Okay. Here's the report. No change in steering feel or power with the Ouverson hubs in free. I hit a section of twisties a bit too fast (for a Deuce). Backed off the hammer and hit bakes a tad. My sphincter puckered some. I have to remember I ain't driving my SpecV. I'm driving a 5 ton truck...
Scott...thank you for your reply! I really like the look of a tandem axle Deuce, but having mine bobbed has several advantages. It fits nicely in my apartment complex's standard parking space. I can easily maneuver it through the narrow, twisty streets of my town. I saved $1,140 on the cost of...
I installed the Ouverson front hubs yesterday. I stretched the bolts to 90 lbs-ft of torque in increments of 50-70-90. I used Permatex blue thread locker on the allen head bolts provided with the hubs. The Ouverson hubs utilize 0-rings in place of a gasket. The fit and finish of their hubs is...
Hank,
Thanks for the torque spec. I had found it somewhere else stated as 60-80 lbs.-ft. I forget where. I'm going to go with the TM torque specs you provided. Thanks also for telling me about your disc brake conversion. It sounds really interesting. I'd love to see pictures of it and see what...
Thank you pctrans! It took me 57 years to live the dream. Just decided I wasn't going to get old and addled without fulfilling it. The fun begins when I push the start button and 134 roaring ponies of White LDT rumble to life.
Hank, Are those the discs that go on the drive shaft flanges? If you do a drive shaft disc on the front axle and have lock outs in 2wd drive don't you lose 1/2 your brakes?
Owen "Dipstick"
Hurricane Sandy bowled it over. Too bad because I loved to look at that tree from my third floor balcony. It had to be 95-100' tall. Majestic. Some guys cut it up and took it away using a backhoe and an equipment trailer. Took them three days. Probably hired by the town. Thanks for your comment...
Yeah, Whistlers do make a lot of noise, but I like it. My truck sort of snorts like a bull when I let out the clutch. All part of the Deuce's romance. I should have kept my opinion to myself on the muffler. Everyone has different tastes. I Like the camo job on the bobber pic for your avatar.
Hello All,
A pair of Ouverson hubs are on the way for my A2's front axle. I'm really getting them to try and coax a little more efficiency/power out of my White LDT465-1C when on dry roads. I wonder what the impact will be on steering quality? Does anyone know the proper torque spec for the...
Splinter, I am way jealous of your weather. Just came back inside from diagnosing my non-working air horn. Looks like the solenoid is bad. It's only money. Hey, you guys can carry in AZ can't you? You can't get a carry permit in N.J. unless your name is Donald Trump.
Woodsplinter, I'm going to sand and spray mine this spring. Thanks for your advice. I notice you own an AM General 1983 M35A2C. Mine is a 1984 AM General M35A2C with Whistler. The world is indeed getting even smaller! There is frost on my truck every morning and the outside temperature just gets...
Turbo
I just got in from putting on the new lenses and turn signal switch. What a difference! The original 28 year old lenses were really dull by comparison. That's really something about your damper. I'm glad it didn't cause you any major problems. I hope it's an easy fix for you. I know it's...
I think you would like the power steering. I'm looking forward to your thread on the A3 build. I'm currently awaiting front lockout hubs myself. I've had them backordered with Overson for two months now. I'm getting them for less rolling resistance on dry/paved roads. My Fstones are radials by...
Thanks everyone!
Thank you all for your kind words.
Caliber1....your locking door handles work great!
TurboMustang....we will have to set up a drive. There must be a lot of Mil Vehicle owners in N.J. Do you have a lot to do on your 932? They are badass looking trucks. I have to fix my air...
Hello all,
I thought I'd include a few pictures of my Deuce. So far, I've done some brake and electrical work on it. It has a Whistler turbo and hydraulic power steering. It's a drop side too. The tires are Firestone T831s and they are 11R-20 43" diameter. I wanted to keep it looking like a...
Welldigger,
I didn't do it myself. I had it done by the guy who bobbed my '84 AMGeneral. I will try to include a few pictures of the work being done that he sent me. That way you can see what it involves. I'm glad I had it installed. Roads are often twisty in N.J. It would be a lot of work...
Not similar at all to the air assist. It's a full blown hydraulic power steering system. Waterloo Specialties sells them.
The hydraulic pump is directly driven from the gear cover on the front of the engine below the air compressor. A hydraulic reservoir is mounted on the firewall. It takes a...
