RE: Virginia SS meet at Bjorn
I'm in if the schedule will allow. The fall is kinda tough for us with going back to WV for WVU homegames, deer huntin, family gatherings, etc... It sounds like a lot of fun though. It'll be a long ride across the state in the Mog :( Might have to haul it.
Wow!! That is beautiful!! Me and Bjorn (cranetruck) have a Goat in lots of pieces that we were hoping to restore. It hasn't moved since we got it back from the junkyard. Too little time and money right now. Plus we live about 5 hours from each other! Got any leads on a Goat engine and...
I like the idea behind it, but people have to take the time to actually post events if we are going to make it work. Me and the other Mods don't have time to go through Military Vehicles Mag, Supply Line etc... every month and post all the events. If something is coming up and you guys feel...
Count me in for this year. It'll be a fun trip in the Mog :D That will be great if we can at least get a block of say 10 spaces so we can have a big presence for SS recruitment.
My M1009 was my only mode of transportation for 10 years. They are a fantastic daily-driver and interstate cruiser. Mine routinely made trips from WV to TN where I was in school at the time and they averaged around 600 miles each way. Right around 20MPG usually, but that was when I had 35"...
Glad to see you are alive and well Bjorn. I can't wait to hear all about your trip. I am going to have to make the trip over to western va to see this truck for myself. Stay safe!!
Not sure what's up with the file. You can also go here: https://www.logsa.army.mil/etms/online.htm to download the manual. Click accept, then enter, then put the TM number in the box and search. It pops right up :D
There is a newly renovated classified ad section. Look under "resources" at the bottom of the menu bar on the left-hand side of the site.

RE: Chuck-vee questions
CUCV's are great trucks for anything from a collector item to a daily driver. The M1009s are a little more street friendly with their 3.08 gears vs. the 4.56s in the M1008s.
They are pretty bulletproof rigs. I had the same one for about 10 years. My biggest complaint...
RE: Maybe a group purchase will work out??
Hmmm, so are any of the tractors at Roman's in decent shape or have they been rusting away in the weeds for the last 10 years?
I've seen a LOT of VA folks on here lately Maddawg. We might have to come up with a VA Chapter of SS!
Pick up the Hayne's manual for your Blazer.
Checking the wheel bearings is pretty easy. Jack it up. Take off the wheel. Unbolt the caliper, remove, and hang with wire from inner-fender. Remove 6 allen head bolts from hub. Whack hub lightly with rubber mallet until it pops out enough to...
RE: Maybe a group purchase will work out??
By the way CGarbee, it would be mighty nice of you to bring a fully stocked kitchen trailer to Aberdeen next year so we can feed everyone at the official Steel Soldiers Midway:D
RE: Maybe a group purchase will work out??
They are nice trailers. I had one that I towed behind my M1009. The plan was to restock it with all the original tools. Never got around to it and traded it along with my deuce for the Mog. I would like to have another one some day. $750 is a...
RE: Maybe a group purchase will work out??
So what's going on up there? Is he just cleaning out and scrapping stuff that has sat for years since prices are up? Is there any tracked stuff there? I thought there used to be a M5 high speed tractor. Maybe I am thinking of somewhere else?
Yeah it seems like a real crap shoot these days. The auctions I like are when there are 10 lots of the same item for sale and they all have the same picture attached to them :D
Yeah, that's a bit much. I sold my M1009 with a perfect body (after I cut all the cancer out and replaced with real metal parts) and fresh paint for $2700. It needed tires, batteries, and a few other odds and ends to be real nice.
I'd say $3500 to $4000 would be a good deal on that one.
The...
