Floridianson look where they allow this use though. Here's the page from the MT600 series you posted about.
You see their use in "drop boxes" which have helical gear to gear contact.(special C-4 rated SAE 30W weight only) . You see them in "slow speed" "off road" applications, (again special...
Civilian models had the cab light above the rear window and the floor lights. At least we have the floor lights.
I was thinking about adding a cab light at one time. To much trouble trying to run a wire through the cab walls.
I decided to post a picture of the "innards" of an Off-Road Allison so people can see what I'm talking about.
Sorry it came out at a funny angle, but you can clearly see the gears are helical gears just like a manual transmission uses. Also these transmissions do "not" go over 20 MPH on...
Having worked on off-road Allison transmission's I can tell you they have large Helical gears in there just like manual transmissions do which need extra "shear stability" . Your over the road transmission doesn't have large gears in them. They use Planetary gearsets only. Also that oil must...
Glad to help. Remember that fuel tank hose gets a lot of people. They don't last forever. In fact I remember reading somewhere that the military recommended they get changed every two years. I last replaced mine 5 years ago, so I better heed my own words and replace it again. This new diesel is...
Well out here in the Pacific Northwest we use Hydro and Nuclear power. Hydro only costs to build and maintain the plant. The Grand Coulee dam is still pumping out watts every second of every day.
Most TM manuals can be sold on eBay for about $10.00 to $40.00 depending on condition and rarity. The most expensive go for around $75.00 and are usually engine manuals. Yours are "Operator" manuals so expect to get around $10.00 to $20.00 for them.
Actually there's not that many opinions here. There's just a few that feel the military can do no wrong so why change it. Most believe the "manufacture" has the best advice for their product. After all "they" designed it and built it.
I worked at a "Detroit Diesel Allison" shop in the...
I told my son the other day; "I won't see it in my lifetime but you will see it. The time when all vehicles on the road will be electric powered . Then you can tell your grandchildren you remember a time when "fossil fuel" was the only way to power vehicles" .
The M35A3 uses the Allison AT1545 series transmission. It came with a "lock-up" torque converter. The standard AT540 series never had a lock-up torque converter. As far as the differences between the 2.5 ton and 5 ton trucks transmissions goes. The 2.5 ton (M35A3 Deuce) used the AT1545...
The Allison was never made from the manufacture to run on engine oil. That was a "military" decision. A good Dexron III or better oil is so far superior to engine oil that it is not funny ! A transmission oil must be a "lubricating oil" and a "hydraulic oil" at the same time. Engine oil is just...
He really cut the crap out of that firewall didn't he ! I bet driving that thing as it is can make you deaf in a hundred feet !
Still, interesting idea.
Even though the picture of you is pretty hazy, I can still see that grin on your face !
Welcome to the "Green Madness" !!!
Sorry, it only gets worse over time  .
