    Allison AT1545 failures

Oil changes on an automatic transmission help the gunk that gets trapped in the valve body to come out. Since the oil level usually comes to the bottom of the valve body, the gunk doesn't have gravity to help it drain away. Once the oil level drops, it drags out the oil in the valve body and...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Being able to read both pressures at a glance is a great troubleshooting tool. If the "regulated" pressure starts to drop I can just glance over and see what the main "pump" pressure is and determine if I have a major problem or just an annoyance issue. That is also why I have the main fuel...

    M35A3 Tire pressure Opions

When a tire is below the rated pressure the sidewalls flex a lot. This causes heat build up which in turn wears the tire out even faster. Always run the tires at the high end for max life, and lower for ride/comfort. Or when "off-roading" you can under-inflate them for better "grip" . Though...

    Crank Shaft Removal

Totally agree. Even in a flat rate shop this would not be allowed. Now if your just replacing crank bearings that can be done "in-frame" . Though you still need to check the shaft.

What did you do to your deuce this week?

QUOTE=rustystud;2237729]No problem. After church tomorrow I'll get to it. OK here's the pictures of my oil pressure lines. The first picture shows the PTFE hose connected to the port on the filter housing. This is straight pump pressure. The second picture shows the line going to a...

    Guilty Pleasure

There still using the "felt liners" which I really don't like, but it keeps the sound down which is their whole purpose. Hard to clean though. The rears are still steel though. I already added a MAG-HYTEC rear axle cover to mine. Next comes the MAG-HYTEC for the Allison which I already bought...

Intermittent power loss - fuel starvation?

To bad you don't have a fuel pressure gauge installed. That would tell us immediately if it was fuel starvation. Since you know the Hydraulic Head is leaking fuel that is where I would start. Also when you had the fuel tank pump out, did you replace the rubber fuel hose then ? They can develop...

    Allison AT1545 failures

The Allison AT540 series transmission is a great transmission. It has been working in trucks since 1970 now. The main reason they fail is lack of proper maintenance. This is the main reason most equipment fails. Since they are such a good transmission and are very strong, most people tend to...

hunting for Allison 1545 front pump

The lock-up is for fuel mileage only. You can totally use a standard AT540 transmission if you so choose. You can also try calling "All Automatic" at 1-800-461-6839 .

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I think that is the best idea letting a pro handle it. That is what I would do on such a sensitive area. The last thing you need is fuel leaking all over the place ! Mine was a bumper and who cares if it leaks.

What did you do to your deuce this week?

OK, here's the pictures of the oil gauges, and some others. Picture one shows the oil gauges. The top is "main oil pump" pressure, and the bottom gauge shows "regulated" oil pressure. Picture two is a close up of the main oil pressure gauge. Picture three is a close up of the regulated oil...

Something a little different here. Military Watches.

That's the book. He is the best for beginner watch repairers to follow. Some of the "standard" watch repair procedures can be a bit confusing like "stacking" unless you see it in action.

    Field find Deuce question

What year is it ? Does it have a newer air-shift transfer case or the old "Sprag" type transfer case ? If the later the sprag might be bound up. After all these years it will need a lot of persuading to move.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Buy a quality plastic welder and lots of extra plastic rod to practice with. I bought a medium quality one which worked OK, but for quality work I needed a better welder. Also you will need lots of practice to get a good weld. I spent a lot of time with mine to finally get the quality and look I...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

You might have a stuck regulating valve. The stock oil pump will put out 120 PSI at start-up. Then the regulating valve drops it back down to around 30 to 40 PSI . I have two sets of gauges. One reads the true oil pump pressure and the second the regulated pressure. At start-up on cold days the...
