No they where not. This kit did not have the correct size of the special "wheel" seals and the "check valves" were missing(cannot remember their proper name right now). Also the seals themselves where just rubber, not "EPDM" seals like our Air force Deuces have installed in them.
Mailed it back...
I knew that didn't sound right ! I should have said "EPDM" seals. I've been on this stupid "30/10" diet (loose 30Ibs in 10 weeks) for three weeks now and my mind has gotten fuzzy lately. No fats at all. I know your suppose to have natural fats to keep your brain working properly and "olive oil"...
It's always considered best to use two drive-shafts when they get near the max length. When I worked at IHC, one of my jobs was installing the differentials on the "Sliders" (cab and frame and engine only) . Some wanted tandem axles. Some wanted shorter frames and single axles. Some wanted long...
Well I went ahead and bought this kit. It is the wrong one. Not only that but it doesn't have all the parts shown in the picture and the seals are "not" blue silicone like pictured. I contacted the seller after buying it and ask what was up here. He told me that "yes the seals are all just...
For the first filter, it should be a "water/filter" unit with a10 micron filter. There are several companies that makes a good diesel fuel filter unit. Just depends on how much you want to spend.
They couldn't move the engine to the center of the bus. To tall and to much noise. So they decided to keep the diesel in back. It was a colossal messed-up bus in so many ways !
This is as good a thing to spend your money on as anything else is. Plus it keeps you out of the bars and pool halls ! Or worse, those Indian reservation Casino's !
The center axle had a 300 HP electric motor powering that. This was the "Tunnel bus" here in Seattle. It had to be electric in the tunnel, (used over-head electric wires like a trolley bus) then diesel on the road. You can look it up. It was the only bus in the world like that. Seattle paid over...
So you didn't try and compress the bushing ? I know you used a jack, but that doesn't compress the bushing. In our bus shop I've had to use a 4 ton "porta-power" unit to compress the bushings. They can be that tight.
I know there are plenty of good sealants out there, but for a reasonable price the "Permatex 80631" works just fine. We used it on our busses in the transit department. No need to spend an "arm and a leg" for the same result.
Just my 2cents .
Just like "silverstate" said. Only use standard industry Hydraulic fittings. They must be DOT approved. DOT fittings are well over twice the thickness of "hardware" store fittings, making them much stronger. I posted the differences a while back. I personally use only "Parker" fittings. Of...
Having worked on a similar type of powered pusher ie: the Breda Bus, I can say there are several things that you need to consider. One is how are you going to prevent "jack-knifing" ? On the Breda bus they used high pressure hydraulic rams (6,000 to 10,000 PSI) that were controlled by computer...
I use "Permatex" 80631 for sealing all my pipes and fittings. Whatever you use, make sure it is "fuel rated" ! There are plenty of pipe sealants out there, but only a few are rated to handle fuel and hydraulics.
Looking real Good !
It would be nice if you could take pictures of all the new and modified parts you have. Have them layed out next to the old parts if possible. Also how much has this cost you to date ?
Thanks for sharing this great project !
