Ouch:mad:! I have replaced all that copper stuff with rubber fuel lines, both supply and return. In fact, I have replaced all copper lines to include all air lines with DOT reinforced nylon. It's all a little more expensive, but much easier to install and maintain.
I have a B CDL w/ no restriction. It's good to err on this side of caution. These posts come around often and I give the same advice. My take is, yes, it is the law in CA to operate these truck with such credentials and you don't want to get caught with "your pants down" if there is a...
I rebuilt mine with a kit from Memphis Equipment. Also, do yourself a favor and replace the plumbing from the poppet valve to the cylinder. Leaks will occur there also. I replaced my PITA copper lines with DOT reinforced nylon and push-to-connect fittings. No more leaks.
Yes. OR, you can...
Once shift lever is removed from the reverse position the poppet valve will activate the declutching piston to the forward movement position. The "PFFFT" sound should alert you to this. One does not have to shift to first gear before forward movement to avoid sprag issues. Neutral or any forward...
Great work on your truck! I love the old "flat-grilles". I especially liked following your cab rocker panel repair. I have some rust spots, not nearly as extensive as yours, I need to repair in the same areas.
Actually it was last week, but I installed a new M939A1 series 58 gal. fuel tank, re-plumbed all the fuel lines with rubber fuel hose and replace the breather vent tubing with polyethylene tubing and brass compression fittings.
My truck exhibited the same symptoms almost to the tee. When I eliminated the selector valve, I replaced EVERYTHING rubber and all the fiittngs were either replaced or tightened up. Been fine since. Many will agree, you are sucking air somewhere.
Yes. I did the spin-on set up. I plumbed in a locking ball ball valve on the tank side for security and for filter changes (helps keep prime to the tank when you change the filter).
I eliminated my selector valve four years ago just after I got my M818 due to a mess load of fuel issues. I have been pulling from the right tank, removing the left completely, since then. Well, right now I'm in the process of installing a new M939A1 58gal. tank on the left side which will...
Ditto^^...I also had Erik get me a 100 count bag each of just the male and female metal connector with out the shells. He special ordered them for me from his supplier. The rubber /plastic parts are reusable so that is why I got them.
I have met with him personally a couple of times and he's...
Mine has brass inverted flare to push-lock (for rubber hose) fittings at the pump. 1/2" supply and 3/8" return. If yours is the same, just cut the old hose off at the supply fitting and push on a temporary length of hose long enough to reach your temp. fuel supply. No need to fool with the...
D-R...mine is the same. They're just light in the @$$. But, yeah, the spring packs are all the same, less the wrecker (walking beam) and bridge trucks (slightly longer).
Thanks, Jesse. Therein lies the problem with code sections. You may have LEO's and DMV clerks that interpret the verbiage differently from the next and the differences vary region to region. Basically a PITA.
Here's the Historical Vehicle code section if you decide to go that route. This is how I have my M818 registered. Just remember, if one person looks at it and admires it, that's a car show. Your vehicle is "historic" because it has served in our nation's rich military history and is now being...
