I was thinking about how quickly the air tanks run out of air with repeated braking. While I have never driven in ice or snow in my truck, might a larger tank allow you to pump the brakes a lot more before no air (assuming no antilock brakes) and thus be safer? Maybe I'm missing something.:)
I'm having issues with the panel of rotary switches that direct air to the cab, suspension mounted on the passenger side of the truck. I need to search for info. Anyone know the official name of this thing?
Hopefully you will never need a rebuild, but if you do:

I'd have the shop measure the bore with a stress plate.
I have been trying for some time to get a grease gun on those U joints in the steering. It is so tight in there, I could not get to the fitting, which was a 90 degree zerk. I ended up getting some 30 degree angle grease fitting from Fastenal. Tractor Supply did not have what I needed. I wanted...
I have never dealt with diesel truck engine fuel delivery, always gas. Thus, I don't know that much about the delivery system differences, other than the mega expensive, don't touch it, injector pump lol
My question is this. A common "dead on the side of the road" issue in gas vehicles is a...
Just curious what others have used to replace their radiator hoses and lines with? Did you stay with cloth wrapped silicone hose? Sources would be helpful : )
I have the Technical Manuals, but finding torque specs seems to be allusive. I absolutely hate the way these manuals are set up. aua
Anyone recall the exact spindle nut and hub cover torque specs?
My truck came from a snow / salt region. Thus, my drums are seized. Here is my removal device. Made it with a Harbor Freight engine stand I had and a bottle jack. Chains rated at 11k # x 4. Hooks (rated at 10k #)came from HF too.
This tool require reinforcement at the 4 swing out arms, as they...
I guess I should organize my rebuild / build info, for the sake of ease of cataloging / searching.
Here is my first contribution to this thread:
Inexpensive driving light improvement-I used Novus System plastic polish. Used for airplanes. Good stuff. I use it for detailing my cars too. For...
Easy peezy and cheap mod.
Total cost: About $4 dollars (online auction)
Total time: About an hour
I left the leads from the truck unmodified, so can be returned to original form. Use a step drill bit and go slow. Dremel the last portion for a tight fit.
Now to LED light all the gauges...
:shrugs:I I'm trying to identify a cross to or repair kit for this valve at the rear of my m1088. I have ran all of then numbers, but am having trouble crossing it. It's the one in the middle in the second picture.
Hi Guys!
Well I went out to adjust the lash on the front hubs, only to find another issue. On the passenger side rear glad hands, air is rushing out of what I believe to be a check valve.
1. Should I just replace the whole unit (rubber grommet at seal has seen better days)
2. Are these...
Hi Guys!Adding new turbo boost gauge. It's a long run to the dash, so I bought another Bosch connection kit and daisy chained them together. $26 for gauge and about $10 for the extension.
Avoid silent death-How to add an EGT gauge with a PID
Here is an inexpensive way to add an EGT exhaust gas temperature gauge. I will be increasing the accuracy of this unit by adding a cold junction compensation mechanism. This particular unit I already had and it reads in Celsius. You will...
Yes, you can use 15W50 or so engine oil. This is what the military wanted, not what your expensive Allison 3000 series transmission wants. Your oil may be well-oxidized and worn by now.
There are two filters. I shopped and found a WIX filter. Turns out Wix is OEM. Bought closeout 2 filter pack...
