Snowtrac told you why. The HEUI 3126 and C7 use electric over hydraulic fuel injection. Their ECU’s may use that signal, the MUI 3116/3126 are dumb old diesels and dont need it unless you want a tach... I think your trans issue was not related to this sensor. Quick check is to disconnect it...

Oops, i was thinking it went to the trans controller... On the A0 schematic the RPM sensor goes to the tach plug and the freq divider box. The freq divider output goes on to the STE/ICE Plug. Trans RPM appears to be sensed internally in the transmission...

The front ones are vented because the front lines feed into 2 way check valves on the service line and a regular check and a 2way check on the emergency line. If you have noticeable air leaking out at the front gladhand vents, you need to track down which valve is leaking back and fix it... If...

I disagree with this part of your description. Every air system I have ever played with, The springs are not used in normal braking. When park air was applied, the springs are taken completely out of the equation(caged with air pressure). The springs only apply about the equivelent of 60 psi...

Well the labeling leads me to believe that is the polarity protection device. Diodes in an aluminum heatsync that only allow current to flow one direction. The only reason to bypass it would be if you suspected the diode was bad. But lets play what if... So your are a new mechanic fresh...
