M923 Recovery Minot, ND to Brookings, SD Standby Contacts

I just rolled into Brookings about 15 minutes ago. I had to make one roadside repair (wire short to fuel sending unit), otherwise there was absolutely no problems. What a sweet rig. We didn't get out of Minot until 1 pm so we stopped in Ellensdale, ND and stayed the night. Thanks to everyone...

    M923 Recovery Questions

Crew, I'm heading to Minot to recover a M923 (my EUC cleared today) and have a few recovery questions. I currently have a M35A2 (and others) and understand the CDL and air brake issues (thank you Steel Solders!!). Here are the Q's: 1) I've read all (most?) the threads surrounding the four...

    Out With The New (Winch)...

I have a 24V motor and 24V solenoids (4 required) for the Warm winch I took off. The solenoids are not so expensive and I took a donor 12v motor and changed the guts out to 24V. The guts (armature, fields) were standard stuff. That being said, I don't think electric winches would ever be...

    C-2296/VRC Enclosures?

I have a C-2296/VRC with a H-207 handset. I would sure like to mount it on the outside of my vehicle (as intended) but need an enclosure for it. The only thing I've been able to find are TMs that show the enclosures as part of vehicle skin or armor. My question is does anyone know of a proper...

    Out With The New (Winch)...

Scrounge41, It's a 1955. When I got it, it was blue and had civilian air patrol logo on it (from Spokane, WA). Under was the OD so I put it back. I need to stencil it and go back to NDTs (but the radials ride so much better)... someday. The hardtop is original and I salvaged the original...

OK, I'll bite and show my ignorance. What does "baby level wind" mean?

Using an adapter. I have an original one (from Warn?) but I believe they are making reproductions as well.

    Out With The New (Winch)...

And the test fit of the OLD one to go in. It's a Ramsey with the stock CJ5 low mount frame. Note my new metal cut to weld a custom rack together. The stock low mount is too wide for the A1 frame. But at least the winch will fit in a custom rack and in the A1 frame, barely. I'll post pics of my...

    Out With The New (Winch)...

My "modern" winch has been hanging off the front of my A1 for years and just bugging the dickens out of me... so I finally decided to at least put a period correct one on. I realize it's not the "correct" one but its close. Here are pics of the new going OUT: . .

    tire wearing uneven

The NAPA numbers listed elsewhere on this site (several other threads and the parts list) is 66903. The gent who posted the NAPA number earlier - have you installed your 76787's yet? Do they fit? Do they bottom out? Please see my edits/technical info below. I'm trying to figure out the best...

    Voltage regulator problem..?

Yes, the regulator is by far the easiest repair. Also, keep in mind the large resistor on the regulator is prone to failure and 5 out of 10 regulator failures can be repaired simply by replacing the resistor. You can spot the failure if the carbon pile is pushed out of the resistor. Easy...

    Winter Dress

Note that there isn't supposed to be a hole in the canvas for the air intake. You want to draw in warm air from the engine compartment if it's that cold. It's in the TMs somewhere. That being said, i did cut a hole in mine and stitched it. I'm wishing I hadn't...

    Winter Dress

The coldest I've started the deuce is 28F below zero. I really do think the hood blanket (sorry, should have called it a "Hood Cover Kit") makes a difference. Below about +20F, without the Radiator Cover, I can forget getting the engine up to operating temp (~185F). So ya, seriously. Two...

    Winter Dress

Yes, you are absolutely right! I installed a 1200W block heater (by removing a coolant plug near the rear of the block) and it starts right up now, tested down to -20F. Made a HUGE difference. Here's the cold weather mods I've done that really do make the difference: 1) Block heater 2)...
