I know things are done "differently" back East, but outlawing surge brakes doesn't make sense at all.
Then again, a lot of things they do don't make sense.
The way I use my trailers, I prefer surge over electric any day.
Curious to read that statue, if it exists.
Welcome
Start saving for another one, plus trailers, as this hobby is addicting.
Perfect truck for the terrain around Junction, if your that far West.
They are easy to work on, and if you leave it stock, plenty of help from guys here and in the TMs.
Read everything you can. Plenty of info...
Properly understood and maintained, the stock system works great.
If it's not broke.....don't fix it.
Mine starts every time, all the time.
Even at -3 below zero.
All stock and DH mod completed
Surge brake shock on my tan M101A2 went out today.
What really bites is that I had the whole thing apart two weeks ago.
Some bolts on the surge assembly/frame rail were loose.
Two were a PITA to get to.
They looked fine until I put fingers on them and they turned.
Now I get to do it all...
Well Seafoam definitely didn't hurt it.
Add some two-cycle oil to tank and keep things lubed.
Todays diesel is very dry.
I always have a bit of both in all my Diesel fuel tanks.
Having lived and worked for an agency in NM for 17 years, I really hate to read that you let him off without calling authorities.
Especially him being a state employee. More than a few of them have killed others in DWI accidents in NM. Even while driving their state issued vehicle.
You opened...
You will spend more $$$ and take more time installing a button that's not needed IMO.
As already said, just fix the problem.
The more you try to redesign, the more problematic it will be.
Double edged sword
That works both ways.
Was he texting before accident and forgot to signal, etc.
This is the exact reason I have dash cameras.
You can hear on the video when you use the turn signal lever, apply brake, etc.
Up in that part of the state, you can drive what seems forever without a turn in the road.
Not a lot to look at either. No external distractions.
Beautiful country for sure. Was up there a few weeks ago.
Your truck would stand out for miles up there.
Always amazes me on the stupidity of...
Thanks to Guyfang for posting the Kohler manuals in the TM section.
Was having trouble downloading one and he solved the problem and also combined all three into one thread.
I haven't given up finding the extremely elusive TO for this.
Dexter makes a complete backing plate assembly called FreeBack.
Allows you to back up a hill without having to lock out the surge brakes.
They have ones for this trailer and the M101A2/3 trailers.
Doesn't solve the immediate problem but will help in the future.
I don't own a M1101/2 series...
Really looking forward to seeing the difference.
Several units that GP had sold had a mix.
One lamp sodium, the other MH.
Bet that looked weird.
Going to install a solargizer for the battery this week.
The original manual that came with these units shows it originally called for Metal Halide bulbs.
Pictures of a page from it I posted earlier in this thread.
Also looked at all the pictures from GP of every unit they have sold. All 25
A few have the MH bulbs and were shining bright. Others...
I already knew about both but thanks for the tip anyway!
I had forgotten just how much ligjt this thing puts out.
Definitely looking forward to the new bulbs. Not a fan of the sodium light color.
At least their not expensive.
I even bought spares.
Hate being without spare parts so I tend...
Replaced light bulbs in the gauges with new VDO bulbs.
Also ordered new main bulbs for the big lights.
These are the "white" light ones.
Bulbs in it now are sodium, which is more of an "orange ish" light.
That's not me holding the Bulb.
Just a stock photo from the website where I bought...
