    Multifuel valve clatter

My engine has developed a clank, clank sound which seems to be related to one cylinder only. It's fairly loud at idle and goes away completely at higher rpm's. I have heard this before and it has gone away on its own, but is now back. The same sound/noise was present while I worked on the log...

    3..2..1..Eureka!

Finally delivered that heavy laundry trailer to Mike Popovitch here in Nevada. Counted down the miles before arriving here in Eureka. The long up-mountain drives began to get to me (and the deuce), 20-25 mph in 3rd gear for ten minutes at a time over and over again. I-80 only looks level on the...

    Brake shoe install question

I ordered and received a "Brake shoe retaining" kit from Clark Truck parts in WV. The kit did not include the large U-shaped clip and washer.... Question, are those parts eliminated or did they ship an incomplete kit? Doesn't look like the U-clip and washer are really needed but my shoes are...

    M37 lift kit?

This question is for my son actually, he wonders if there is a lift kit available for the M37.

    Brake bleeding the easy way

This is brake bleeding a' la Kenny, after connecting the hose to the MC, just pump the sprayer 30 to 35 times and go about your business bleeding the brakes, one man style. Works like a charm and no pumping of the brake pedal. Thanks for suggesting it Recovry4x4!

    Batteries died today

Nobody likes the "click, click" from the starter solenoid, but after almost six years with these batteries, I'm not surprised. Champion "Trail Blazer" 65-2A, purchased in Oct of 2000, finally gave out. Made one little mistake, though, decided to try one last time to charge them individually...

    Rotated tires today

In preparation for the cross country trip, I decided to borrow the almost new tires from the laundry trailer to get rid a a nasty shimmy. Here are several images of the procedure, took about two hours. Knuckleboom + hydraulic outriggers = success A test drive later went very well, no shimmy...

    Gauging the deuce

This is another repeat posting that I'd like to add on to in the future so here goes. My assortment of gauges now includes a viscosity gauge. It is now operational and shows about 13 volts for diesel fuel and 14-15 volts for biodiesel/veggie oil. More info will be posted as test runs are...

    Crane boom markings

The original posts were lost, but I thought this was an interesting subject and will repeat it here. I now have the information I asked for thanks to Kenny, it comes from TB 746-93-1.

    USMC deuce markings

When I picked up my M49A2C fuel tanker back in 1995, it only had two sets of markings, "2640" on the doors and "USMC 353418" on the sides of the hood. The hood markings were 1" size only. Is it normal for a USMC vehicle to not have bumper markings and only have the numbers shown here?

    Gauging the deuce

Found a spot for my latest addition to my collection of gauges. This one will indicate the position of the "FDC" stop block. It will be used to monitor the fuel viscosity. To date I have used a digital voltmeter to get an indication , this will be more permanent. The installation isn't...

    White cab top

Painted the bikini top white today. I could swear it felt cooler inside with the sun beaming down on it.... I purposly left the edges camo to make the white top less visible from the ground walking around the truck.

    NDCC tire siping

To improve wet pavement traction, I intend to sipe my next set of tires. The pattern I think will work is shown in image #1 below (drawn with white marker) and the siping tool is shown in image #2. The cuts will be 1/4 inch deep and made with the blade installed in the tool, kinda like an exacto...

    Engine horsepower calculation

In my MVM article on engine braking and downhill driving (#108, April 2005), I showed how to calculate the approximate engine HP based on the grade, speed and vehicle weight. I have often played with those numbers after recording my own driving experiences and feel that the formula is fairly...

    Pipeline variant rear marker lights

Got the marker lights finished on the deuce a couple of weeks ago. Here is a rear view. Note the location of the BO marker lights, sides and rear, pretty much by the book.

    Wayne Harris, GA images

Here are images from my recent visit to Wayne's place near Baxley, Georgia. To find his location, use mapquest and the nine digit zip, 31513-5677.

    Fuel leak

This fuel leak has been developing over a long time, it isn't a big leak, just enough for the biodiesel to eat away the paint as it drips down the side of the IP. Question: is there a gasket of some sort involved or is it an inverted flare type connection at this point. The image shows the boot...

    Brackets and chocks

A couple of images here. The picture of the wheel chock per request by Loose Deuce and the image of the M756 marker light brackets as mounted and painted on the cranetruck. The brackets, which were welded in place yesterday came from Kenny's donor pipeline truck bed (a big thanks again!). They...

    HMMWV question

With this talk about antennas and stuff, I'm wondering what parts of the Humvee are made of fiberglass/plastic if any. Are the fenders fiberglass? Just curious. Thanks.

    CJ-7 pick up today

Returned a short while ago from a CJ-7 body/frame pick up. It's for another of my son's projects and he and a friend came along in the deuce for the 62 mile round trip. We backed into the back yard between two houses and loaded the old jeep and returned home. Biodiesel/veggie oil was the fuel...
