got new sending unit. is this black wire on the sending unit for a water in fuel sensor? if so is the cucv supposed to have this sensor in the tank? As I thought it was in the fuel filter housing. if it's not needed, should I cut it off? zip tie it up?
pulled old unit, looks completely...
Yeah after I got the hoses cleaned up, I think they are reusable. I think it was the stripped out clamp that I found later that was allowing it to leak. I wouldn't mind switching to a civy fuel neck and hose, but I'll have to let that go for now.
I got the rivets drilled out and 1/4" - 20...
here's a question... how do you reattach the new straps to the frame brackets? these have large rivets. I have rivots, but nothing that big. Nor do I have a rivet gun that would accept that large of rivits.
think 1/4 bolts would work? They fit the holes on the new straps perfectly. but the...
I just took apart the filler neck and the filler and vent hoses and cleaned them up a bit. On the filler neck hose clamp that held it on the filler neck, I found the screw was stipped out. So thats probably where it was leaking, as the hoses look good no cracks or etc. So I may just finish...
ok, finished getting the tank down today. doesn't look to bad actually other than being filthy.
I havent pulled the sending unit too look inside, but through the fill port it actually looks fairly clean.
In any case, apparently someone has been in here before, as this sending unit is only a...
There are shortages of about everything these days. Another reason I want fix everything I can to get/keep my truck fully up and running. I have heard from a Number of people who had something break on their vehicle, often little stupid sensors or etc, and for some of them their vehicles have...
no problem. I get what you were saying, and I normally would look up and see what was the correct lube for whatever I'm working on if I didn't know. But I just used what I had on hand as I didn't even know if the bearing was still going to work. I figured any grease was better than it running...
Well I got my fuel tank yesterday. But was disappointed when it arrived, as the entire end of the box was busted out and and the rest beaten up. There were multiple dents, mostly in the "flange" where they weld the top and bottom halves of the tank together. I didn't see any damage to the seam...
yeah maybe, but white lithium (in a can not the spray stuff) or red "tacky" grease is all that I had on hand. Maybe the red grease would have been better. But anything has to be better than nothing though.
This truck is my daily driver too, actually its my only vehicle I have right now. Just a couple weeks ago the rear brake caliper went bad on my Dad and Moms small SUV. So I had to replace the caliber, brake hoses, and pads. Thats the only vehicle they have, so I used my truck to go back and...
took inner seal off front bearing, it was dry. what little grease was left was completely dried up, took a pick and picked out a few pieces. put in some white lithium grease, what I was able to get in there. after I got the alt back together, I tried spinning the pully and could feel a little...
found a passengers side upper alt bracket on Hillbilly Wizard. I might order it just to have on hand. Maybe I can order the Wilson alternators at some point.
Hey Thanks for that [thumbzup]
And yes I agree, I think your's is stock. Mine is a hack job. Which is what is causing my squealing. Something isn't lining up right with the belt, or it is the bearings in the alternator even though they still "feel" ok.
wow... they used every size didn't they
Didn't know it used fuel injection hose instead of regular fuel line either. Will have to see call my local auto parts store tomorrow to see if they have that.
Thanks for the info [thumbzup]
Went back over to the barn to look at that upper bracket again, took a couple photos. Its obviously been hacked up. The bracket on my truck where they welded it, the nose is not flat but instead "dips" down.
Tried to find some photos online of this bracket, or at least of this side of the...
I just thought about this when I was walking back over from the barn...
What if this is not a 27si alternator at all? I know its an aftermarket, so what if they just took the original alternator into a parts store and found one that was "close enough"? :shrugs:
If so, it would make sense why...
something about how this alternator was assembled just doesn't seem right to me. Maybe im wrong ,but it would seem like there should be a bushing on the front and rear shaft where they contact the bearing surfaces. rear had no bushing. and front had one but only on outside front housing.
Also...
took alt apart, every looks fairly clean. checked for play in front sealed bearing and resr needle bearing. they seem to roll smoothly and I can't feel any play just rolling them by hand. the rear needle bearing turns easier than the new one that I found in the alt rebuild kits I found the other...
yeah not too much damage for being able to straight up replace it all. about $225 for tank, sending unit, straps, and roll of rubber isolators to go between straps and tank. I was surprised to get a tank for that price, glad I found it on Summit with free shipping
hey all, while I'm waiting on belts and fuel sending etc which still won't be in until tuesday. I thought I'd go ahead and look at the passenger's side alternator.
when I started unbolting it, I was looking at the belt. it looks like it's running true, but the bottom alternator bracket sure...
